The backfiring could be because of the maf, because the computer uses the MAF output to calculate timing advance and fueling, among other things.

I would turn the fuel down, set the timing right, put the MAF on that you wanna use, disconnect the battery, let her sit for a while, press the brake pedal, put the cable back on the batt, and see if it runs okay.

The timing is at 10 degrees. Without a fuel pressure gauge its gonna be hard to see where I'm at..Ill try to disconnect the battery and let it sit for a while.

Ya, its super hard to see what your fuel press is if your not using a gage. the kits are $30 or so from auto-zone, orielleys, etc. set your timing to 12-14, thats what the computer is looking for, not 10, 16, etc. and disconnecting the computer after setting all this correctly will work. if one setting is off, it will try to compensate, or "learn" around it. the base timing and fuel maps In the computer are based off 12-14* of timing, 38psi static fuel press(vacuum line disconnected) and the TPS at 0.98v tested to ground. any differences will throw it off, making it operate differently than desired.
