Hood liner really necessary?

Thinking of removing the inner hood liner for the coming cruise-in season. It looks like crap. Is it a "must" to have it there; in other words, would getting rid of the liner mess with the hood (engine heat)? I figure guys with fiberglass hoods run without liners, so I should be ok, right?

I was told that it is a fire resistant material that is made so when there is a fire, the plastic pins melt and it drops down on the motor to hopefully smother it.

I know it looks like crap under it though. The breathing holes cut in the hood look like they were hand cut and it isn't completely painted.

This is weird. I just took mine off today to clean and paint it but it doesn't look bad without it

if you want your car to catch fire.. then why yes, yes it is!

Yes.. It is supposed to be there to dissipate heat and actually help stop a fire if one were to occur..

But lets think.. If there is a fire big enough to make that thing fall down on the engine.. its already too big of a fire.. and that blanket will in fact catch fire lol. SO F THAT!

I'm not sure paint would take well to it. Best to leave the thing off. Maybe placebo effect or not but it seemed a little louder too :)

As long as you clean it paint will stick. Did it with my old vert. Just spray it down with degreaser and pressure wash it.

I've heard that it was there to protect the paint on the hood if your motor got really hot and you weren't getting much air flow. But like everybody else is saying it doesn't seem to do much if you remove it.
