Hood liner really necessary?

I want to try this but its 90 freakin dollars. People I've talked to on my chevy truck site say it cancels nearly all engine noise that you can hear from the outside. However there are a lot of other things to do to the car before its so far along that I'll spend $90 on a hood mat lol. Cascade is a very reputable sound deadening company.

I have that stuff on my tranny hump to keep down heat. It blocks heat well but is not much of noise barrier honestly if anyone said they could actually hear the difference they were full of it. There is not enough mass to that stuff to really stop noise but does a great job on heat.

To the OP, my hood liner to had seen better days, so i washed it off with a hose let it dry thoroughly and spray painted it black with engine enamel

Still looks good after 2 years!

My hood has 2 big holes hacked into the underside from a Ford recall (hood separation) so I need my hood liner. My liner was looking like crap too and they don't make replacement's for the 94-95's. You have the exact same product I linked? Cascade brand with the two different layers of foam?

no this has fiberglass matting in between the aluminum pieces.

Works really really well and between that and a new shifter gasket I have not had any temp issues from the consol.

Hmm that stuff is just called thermal block. The one I linked is actually designed for noise. You said they don't work so I just wanted to be sure before I went out and bought one.

if that works both as a thermal block as well as a sound damper then go for it but I think the cascade is just a typical mass damper/type of material. It will take longer to heat up but it should not reduce the temp much after it is hot. The fiberglass stuff I linked too does not get hot and reduces the temp but will not do anything for noise. I think the only way to get both would be to do a layer of both if you wanted but in my case it was just the temp I was worried about.
