Hey guys, Havent been on here for a while. Just recently I popped my hood to check on something, and went to close it, and low and behold it wouldnt close. Now I thought there was a U shaped bar on the underside of the hood to latch onto the lock, but honestly couldnt remember and didnt see it or hear it break off. So now its held down by some tough wire and the safety lock. What are my options? I had hood pins but cant find them! Plus I gotta work like everyday this week and gotta travel outta town for Thanksgiving. Dont want the hood to pop up and smash the windshield and whatnot. Thanks guys!

your only choices are to leave it as is or to install some hood pins real quick

lol yes i'm sure, look at any stock mustang hood. None of them have a U shaped bar sticking down. Did you try closing it hard enough? Is the latch sticking? It's weird it would just stop latching.

will the hood seat on the "first stop?" so the hood is sort of caught, but won't stay down? if that is the case i had the same problem with mine, and i loosened the two 8mm bolts holding the latch assembly to the rad. support and adjusted them, tightened them, and repeat, until the hood fits fine.

Sounds like what I need to do, because it does seat on the safety, but wont securely latch down..

Dude this may be a lame idea, but try pulling the hood latch in your car again. You know by your foot rest driver door. When I installed my after market hood, the secondary locking latch on the hook part kept getting engaged, so the latch assumed the hood was in the closed position but it kept popping up.

Anyway worth a try, if you haven't already/

Also with my cheap ass Mr Body Kit fiberglass hood, it wore a groove so the locking mechanism never wold latch. I have since mounted a peice of thick metal so the latch has something to grab on to.

+1 mine does that because i actually broke the plastic part of the release so i use pliers to pull it out and if i dont manually push it baack in, the hood wont close i tried slamming too!

My '98 goes through spells in the colder months where the OEM hood does not want to latch. I keep the latch lubed up and it still pulls this little act every once in while. Have never really figured it out.
