Ditto, Mack...take care of it; maintenance is always better than letting it go. A cute 98 GT lives at my place with 135 K on the odometer. Still running strong!

The car i drive daily has about 220,000 miles on it (give or take some). 96 black GT, stock as can be. it isn't fast in any form, but the car still has balls to it and i'm confident in it, so i can't honestly tell you when it's have something big go wrong with it.
But on the other hand, my 98 32v swap GT has original 80k miles on it. pretty low miles i think.

it's like duh said. these cars should last a long long time, but some people need to learn how to maintain their cars. that's when you see 100k cars with blown motors. usually.

So.. i wouldn't really stress miles too much, but be aware of high miles cars because some are cars that have been neglected and can be a pile of junk. if you do have a low miles car that seems clean then i would say go for it though.

147k here. Motor doesn't smoke at all. Had to replace several things since i've had it. Including maintenance things. The biggies were Disty, A/C Compressor, and the battery. Mileage doesn't scare me as all as the maintenance has been done. Things will break, you can't control that, just fix em and move on.

I had mustangs with 144k, 89k and 90k miles... All of them were reliable except for little niggles... that being said they were all at least 13 years old so I really cannot complain...

90k seems low to me? Especially considering the age of the car. Right now, my SRT is the only car in the family under 100k at 67k and its the only one broke. With proper maintence, these Mustangs will last a loooonnnnngggg time.

I bought mine with 140K and I have 164K on it now and still running strong. As many others have stated, with proper maintenance these cars will last a long time.

Maintanancy is more important than milage.

+ a million. If you didn't go look at the car already when you do you should be able to get a pretty good idea of how the car was taken care of by it's condition. Don't think just cause it's older that it means it's gonna be beat up because that's not always the case. Just look it over good, make sure it doesn't smell funny or anything, doesn't hurt to stick your head under the car, check the oil and what not.

My 87 hatch had 297K on it when I bought it and I ran about 60-70 bottles of NO2 through it on a 100 dry shot, racing every weekend untill it blew up about 4 years after i bought it. Then I went with a 347, H,C,I and a 300 shot. There car was a california car and still had the original paint. It all depends on the car man. My dad bought an 03 Cobra in 2003 and the motor blew at 6K. Granted that was still under warranty but you never really know till something happens. If you work on cars long enough you realize they are all hunks of crap.

THE 5.0 motors will last quite awhile. Depending on the previous drivers, you can easily pull 150k+ miles out of them. Both my 95gt and 95 cobra were pushing 200k when I bought them. The gt ran like a dream with no smoke until a semi totaled it and the cobra is currently pushing 190k with even less signs of age. The mix of metal in the engine casting is the reason for the slow cylinder wear. Dont be worried about miles. Worry more about the sucker that your buying the car from.

90k is nothing for that year. Most cars are way up there! Thats an average of 5625 miles a year!

I had 168k miles on my v6 and it was running very strong. Ive had the car sine 98, so I know its had regular maintenance. Blew a head gasket but it was recalled. The second head gasket was my husbands fault, After gears the governor kicked in at 86mph, and my husband drove for miles trying to make it go faster. Lets see. threw a code, changed the o2 sensor, threw a code, changed the cam positioning sensor... ...really nothing, but it was a 3.8.

Nothing wrong with the motor, but went ahead and swapped in a v8. It was an 86 block, with a bunch of new stuff on it. Supposedly had 3,000 miles on it after a rebuild. So far, Ive put 4,000 miles on top of that. Im at 172k now. Theres been some reliability issues, but thats because we basically built this engine ourselves from the block up, with no previous knowledge, so I dont blame ford, and neither should you. Besides, it looks like its running pretty good and reliable now.

Yup, it really depends on the car. My old '97 GT was bought with just under 96K miles and it needed a lot of work. Unfortunately, it was also pretty thrashed, so in spite of careful driving and being a stickler for maintenance, I couldn't change the fact that the whole powertrain was shaky from past abuse.

On the other hand, I've also had a couple of cars well over 150K miles that gave me no hassle on the powertrain side.

Depends entirely on the maintenance and how the car has been treated, but a good test drive should tell you what you need to know.

Car turned 195k miles today. I drive it daily, keep it well maintained, and road race it pretty often as well. The long block is still all original, rings and head gaskets. Some of the other stuff had to be fixed or replaced due to abuse or age, but it was all fairly minor stuff, minus transmission work (started to grind gears around 180k)
