how realistic, expensive and hard would it be to swap in a carb'd 302 into my 96GT.......my options are to build a 302 (dirt cheap to build as most of you know) drop in a used, low mileage PI motor (probably cheapest) or build my current NPI motor (she has lots and lots of miles and is getting tired) I just like the idea of the 302 with a carb because i can easily and cheaply get 300ish hp from a fairly mild build, but at the expense of idle quality and gas mileage and nothing beats that good old kick from the secondaries kicking in.

Yes. PI swap isnt too expensive, but would say to go the extra mile, spend 500-600 bucks, throw some street/strip cams in there.

I can get a low mileage used PI motor for under 1k and the swap is direct so cams would probably be in the budget

so I found a used PI engine from a 99 GT for a price I cant pass up, realistically how long would it take me to swap the engine out? I have a lift available to me and all needed tools, or how much do you think it would run me to have someone do the swap out for me?

intake, reflashed ECU, manual boost controller, forge racing diverter valve (work of art), Viggen intercooler...probably laying down in the vacinity of 250ish to the wheels, never had it dynoed, had the bigger turbo with higher boost from the factory too. I honestly think the Saab would smoke my Mustang......which is why I have to do the motor swap, I cant let my wife have all the bragging rights!!!!

If you install a carbed 302 in your car, it will never pass emissions inspection. If you have an emissions inspection.

You shouldn't have that problem after a PI swap and some cams.

The swap is not bad, there is a how to over on modulardepot.com it was a sticky last time i was on that site.

its easy man, you'll have to use your timing cover off of your 96 so you can use coil packs still, but everything else should swap right over.

do cams while you have it all in pieces, and long tubes.. you'll kick your self in the ass later if you don't do it now lol

just so you know, youll get more power out of a 96 block and the PI heads then a complete PI engine straight out of a New Edge. Secondly, you should do cams, but you HAVE to get a tune which is another 400+ in addition to the price of the cams.
