how to get into the 11s with my 97 gt

simple question, just picked up a 97 gt auto coupe, my goal is to get into the 11s, my power adder of choice is nitrous. so what is the magical combo to get this bad boys in the 11s?

31 spline rear end, shift kit/tuner for the tranny, and a 175 wet shot, MT slicks and you should be high 11's.



at least thats the combo my friend has on her 2002 GT and shes in the 11's..

how will these motors hold up to on nitrous? ive head 100 shot is all the 4.6 will take, and then other people say 200 all day long/

also car is in the shop right now getting tranny freshen up, shift kit, 3000 stall nitrous converter. also have a nitrous express wet kit in the mail right now

I ran 150 on my PI swapped 96 all day long, the timing is so detuned you can run up to a 200 shot without having to worry about detonation (so you dont really need a nitrous tune) but run a compression and leak down test before you spray it, then do a few test runs, pull the plugs after every run and try to fine tune it. if they are white, go .3 bigger on the fuel jet, if its black, go down .3, if its golden, dont touch it. if its peppery, its detonating.


I would run autolite 103's or NGK TR6's

what times did ya run in your 96?

I plan on doing a aftermarket head/cam package from my friends at modular heads. but just wanna make sure the bottom end can handle 150?

I only ran the 1/8th and I never got to run it with the spray, just had fun on the streets.

I would go to PI heads and intake, that would bump your compression and give you a little more torque too.

I wouldnt do anything drastic like port and polishing, it's not going to give you a super huge increase like people claim.

bottom end should handle 150 no issue, Mine did, but I also had a low mileage bottom end with good compression and leakdown.

do not forget plugs, at 150shot I would use those NGK tr6's. also get a NX window switch, dont spray below 3K

mine has 98k miles. im going to do comp/leak when I get back from the tranny shop. I plan to throw on the 100 shot for now and just enjoy it while I start saving for the heads/intake.

its an auto car and the nitrous will be on a buttom so I don't think there is a need for a window switch right?

also, I was running a window switch, on top of a power switch and WOT switch..all about safety. after you have a backfire you learn the important of window switches and such.

haha I hear ya man, I blew up my zx10 because I thought I knew it all......What did ya do as far as tuning the car on the spray? is stock map ok for 150+shot

I tuned it via pulling the plugs, stock timing is so de-tuned you can spray 200 and not have to worry about detonation. Like i said earlier just pull the plugs after every run (intill you have it dialed in) and make sure they look good and arent rich/lean/ pinging.

Full suspension put the car on a diet and get some big and littles with a 125 shot and call it done ... Suspension is key to going fast.

Don't forget fuel, make sure you have a big pump in there.

Engine: 75 shot, set of pi cams/heads and intake
Sus: adjustable front and rear struts and some nice 4cyl fox body springs up front, no sway bar links..
Driveline: stock axles will be ok as long as you dont have a heavy clutch, 26x8.5x15" slicks

let it eat and get a good tune youll see 11's easy with that combo
