After I installed my built transmission I realized how aged and torn my lower shift boot had become and figured it was time to upgrade.

I ordered from the site vendor Latemodel Restoration the following:

LRS-7277G – 79-04 MUSTANG LOWER SHIFT BOOT Price Each: $12.99 -The shift boot
HDW-7277A – 1979-04 MUSTANG LOWER SHIFT BO Price Each: $7.99 -New install bolts

Tools needed: 8mm socket, 13mm socket, I used a 1/4 ratchet and a short extension to make the job easier.

Step 1: Remove shift knob by turning counter-clockwise.

Step 2: Gently pull shifter bezel outwards and disengage the cig lighter harness by pulling it apart.

Step 3: Remove the two 13mm bolts that hold the shifter handle to the shifter base.

Step 4: Remove four 8mm bolts holding down the lower shift boot

Step 5: Pull out lower shift boot and its metal retaining frame. Separate metal frame from boot.

The LMR boot is much thicker than my stock piece. Nice quality.

These staples hold the frame and boot together, remove staples and install frame on top of new shift boot.

Step 6: Reinstall new boot and install the metal frame on top. Secure with four 8mm bolts.

Did you notice a good difference with the CobraBob shifter gasket? Been thinking of picking one up.

No, I honestly didn't but the benefit I did appreciate is that the CobraBob gasket is reusable instead of having to re-seal with rtv every time.

I did mine a couple of years ago as my consol was getting really hot after I drove for a while. I think it partially the X-pipe I am using(noticed it got hotter after installing it) as well as the gasket but a new gasket as well as them thermal block under it helped alot.
