You did not say you had a cheap way for parts and labor, that makes a huge differance in costs.

Miss a gear engine go boom. Big blocks don't like big RPM's, to much mass to move. Most don't like going over 6k, be smart enough to use a rev limiter.

Take it from somebody who used to drag race a 4spd. I ran a 1968GT, 428CJ, with a top loader 4spd. I went through 2 clutches a year minimum. My car was very capable of running very low 12's if not high 11's. I had 2 major problems. 1) 4spd, I was very inconsistant, and never really got it down pat. 2) Gears, I had made a poor gear choice.

My best time was a 12.58 @ 113mph. My speed was there, but I lost alot of time due to poor shifting and hitting the rev limiter in or just before the speed traps. Between the 2 problems I definately lost 1/2 a second.

I let a guy drive it who had been running a stick for years and he ran a 12.33 @114mph. He drove the car one time only. If he was familiar with it he could have been into the 12.20's. This guy was good, he made a 4spd car sound like it had an automatic trans in it.

I drove my friends 240sx down the track, i forgot what i ran now, but they were putting 2 240sx, 5spd, 4cyls up against each other. at the end I almost got disqualified because they thought it was an automatic lol, I love shifting through the gears, it's what makes racing fun imo

I'm not going with a big block anymore, because it's way too expensive for a car I'm not going to keep, I'm gonna go with a 383 stroker naturally aspirated.

on june 28th I'm going to enter pinks all out with my friend and his 79 camaro. we both have lots of stuff to do to our cars, so our deadline is april to have them both done, so we can take them to the track/ midnight madness to work out some kinks.

is more compression actually worth the race fuel? if I ran an 11:1 compression would it really make that big of a difference in performance?

My s-10 witha blown head gasket was running 11.76 @113.... you should be well into the 11's with a good 60'...

Like I said I made a very poor gear choice. I was running 4:86 gears. I was running out of motor. I had the rev limitter set at 6200rpm shifting at 6000rpm. I needed somthing in the 4:30 range. Plus the car was not gutted at all, so it was at full weight. It also could have had some suspension work done.

If I remember right my 60ft times were in the 1.6-1.7 range. The car had alot of potential to be unlocked from it, but family happens. I have not had the car on the track since 1994, and it has not been driven since 1998. I sold the engine due to cash flow problems. Now it sits waiting it's turn.
