Hi everyone, I need a little help with my 347 stroker motor that I am building for my 97 Mustang. I have the 5.0 block, a Crane Cam .530" lift cam and GT40P heads from an Explorer. My question is, will I have any clearance problems using 15cc dome pistons with that set up? I know I have to perform a valve to piston clearance test first but I would like to get some opinions first before I spend all the money on the pistons. Also does anyone know which headers fit on the GT40P heads? (preferably full length) Thanks in advance

As I already mentioned to you the first time you asked this question...

You need to check PTV clearance. There is no "magic number" on lift that will ensure you don't have issues.

Any commentary found here will be pure speculation, and have no value to you for your build.

Out of curiosity, why are you using dome pistons? What compression ratio are you attempting acheive here?

sorry, I didnt realize you replied the first time I asked. I want to achieve the highest possible compression ratio as possible. Its going to be used on the trck and rarely on the street. I was originally going to use flat top pistons because the motor was going to be supercharged but I changed my plans a little bit and would like to go high compression - all motor.

So you want to run racegas all the time then at eight bucks a gallon? How fast are you trying to go?

I think you'd be better off spending the money on good heads rather than high compression custom pistons.

yeah for a straight track car i'm really surprised you're using GT40P heads, i'd say focus on getting a lot better set of heads.

True why GT40p heads on 347? Get better heads instead...

I will be. Its just that when I first started the project, I didnt want to spend so much money on aftermarket heads so I settled for GT40P heads. Plus I pulled them myself from the junk ard and paid only $40 or both. But now that its progressing Im going to go ahead and sell the heads or keep them as back up incase I ever need them and get some aluminum heads. Anybody have any suggestions on decent priced heads?
