Long story short, my stupid dyslexic ass used a bad jack point. The dog bone in front of the differential. Now im getting a screeching sound coming from around the differential. Any thoughts to what may be causing the sound? I think i bent something that is rubbing on my driveshaft. Im not sure I cant tell. any other ideas?

with the proper jack points i shall!

lol. diffy this time amigo. diffy. then jackstands on axle housing.

Once again, you fail, that is also a non-secure jacking point for the posibility of spitting the cover from the rear axle housing. You should jack from torque boxes.

Used diffy this time. Turns out it had nothing to do with poor jack placement. I just need a new rear rotor.

i guess theorectically anything could happen...

dont jack from your sub frame connectors as the welds could break....

i think the axle cover coming off durring a jacking experience should be looked at by the myth busters...

"we've been jacking for months, and it just wont come!"

it turned out that the driveshaft was fine. in fact it was the rear right rotor that was making the sound.so if anyone has a right rear rotor that would be great!

Technically the rear diff isn't design or intended for jacking of the rear of the car. The axle tubes are not welded in strait. They have about 1/2 to 1 degree up angle build into them. The axle tubes aren't meant to carry the weight of the car at the center. Everybody does it though, including myself but it's not the "correct" way.

So what is the correct way?

WRONG!!!!

you fucking fail..

EVERYONE PUTS JACKSTANDS ON THE AXLE HOUSINGS!

there is nothing wrong with it and nothing will get bent or broken..

1. Jack up pumpkin
2. put stands on axle
3. done..

when you have mastered this get back to me I have an IRS ;)

Depending on the situation, If I need to get the driveshaft off I use the axles to support the car, if I need to say change shocks or something, I use the torque boxes. So what is the "preferred" jack spot on the front then? I use k member then the control arms most of the time, use the subframes the rest of the time :).

Yes, you can put jack stands on the axle tubes, however I said you should not jack from the bottom of the differential (ie lift from the bottom side of the cover) which is 100% true. YOu can do it yes, but that one time you do it and seperate the cover from the housing and now your leaking gear oil or pull a bolt out of the housing, have fun. Im telling you vehicles are built to be lifted from the Torque Boxes. /discussion.
