Woot! My brother and I successfully change my transmission over the past few days. It took us 3 days to do it, 6 hours worth of driving for parts, but she is done.

Anyone that puts in a 4cylinder T5, the pilot bearing your gonna need is a alternator bearing, haha.

but, I got the car done yesterday around 4pm. Drove it most of the night just cruising around being easy on it. From what I can tell, 1st 2nd and 3rd all seem a little shorter, which isn't bad.

Oh yeah, I drove the car 3.9 miles with open headers to the exhaust shop! It was awesome! :dancing6:

I hope you worded your post wrong...

If there really is a T5 out of a 2.3 LX... It would be a very very very good idea NOT to drive it until you have a reliable transmission... If yer in or near NJ... I can get you a good price on one... The last thing you want to do is get stuck on the side of the road and need the car towed home...

You will be suprised what they can hold.... well im suprised with what my t-5 that came out of a turbo coupe, and from what i read of others sometimes they hold up fairly well. I put mine in a 91 though and had to use a pilot bearing i think from a saab. grind off a quater of an inch or so from the end of the shaft. It's holding 450+ hp, been to the track little over a month ago ran 12.4 @ 118mph, no traction on streetm tires. I know it isnt going to last threw to much already broke the t-5 out of a 5.0 in third. I wouldnt recommend putting one in but if it gets you up and going for 50 bucks its worth it. waiting on a c-4 from a buddy.

check it out, not much difference, rated at 250 for the svo, where the 2.3l were rated at 240ft/ibs

"The proof is in the pudding", as they say. Many people have tried, and they don't last very long.

Get yourself a better trans man.

+1...

I'm not making it up... nor is anyone else... that tranny will grenade... case closed... its a proven fact...

i agree, i already broke one. but if you dont have the money to buy a heavier duty tremec, or performance trans, it was worth swapping in my case in a few hours.

Yes, I said its out of a 4banger. Its a world class T5, so its 87 atleast. Almost positive its from a Turbocoupe.

I used my bellhousing, no I didn't change the input shaft.

Yes, it'll probably explode, send various parts everywhere, I just hope and pray the tranny fluid doesn't hit the back tires.

but, it was free. I'm a broke ass kid working a few hours at Walmart during the week. When I have the funds to buy a good trans, I'll do so. Until then I will just continue on this one until it breaks, lol.

For what it's worth, that's what I did with my truck. I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota, I got it with the 3.9 V6. I swapped in a 5.9 V8, and everyone was telling me my transmission wasn't going to hold up worth a shit.. so I decided i'd drive it until it let go, then get the heavier duty 46RE V8 trans. Well, 6 months and 5000 miles later, it's still going strong.

Good luck!

However, if you really are a 'broke ass kid', maybe you're driving the wrong car lol.

Never! Mustang or nothing. Gotta pay to play, ya know?

Then start paying and buy a usd T5 out of a junkyard for $150-$200. I put my new T5 in my Mustang today in my driveway. took about, 6 hours, but would have taken less if my original pilot bearing wouldn't have grenaded, and we had to drill it out(waiting on my drill battery to charge) car is good now... I got my rebuilt G-force for $600
