Ok, my friend has a 2004 gt with exhaust and 4.10 gears. His best time is 14.00. Instead of getting drag radials and a nitrous kit, he is going to buy a torque arm and a panhard bar for $700, and he says that it will make him launch, I quote: "like a bat outta hell".

I'm trying to convince him that a panhard bar and torque arm won't do shit for him at the track... Am I wrong??

I think getting the radials would probably be more cost effective and probably work better. But I think the T/A and Panhard do help you lauch fwir

Well I ran M/T drag radials for a year on my car with a stock rearend it held up fine. That all ended when I ran at NMRA on a prepped track for the first time. Bent both axles... Now I have 31 splines!

with just an exhaust and 4.10s, he'll probably break his tranny launching at high rpm's with drag radials before breaking a rear end, and if he has a stock auto with stock converter he'll be just fine, now im not saying every rear can hold up cause ive seen stock cars blow the rear end but more often than not itll hold up just fine

My friend actually had 4.10s in his 03 GT and his best ET with Nitto DRs was 13.5. He also had a cold air intake, high flow x pipe and Flowmasters. If your friend is looking to spend $700 there are a lot better ways to spend it if he's looking to drop ET.

yes they will, just depends how aggressive you drive. For my friend it only took 3 launches.

correct me if im wrong but drag slicks have a softer side wall then drag radials which means when u launch they give a lil in stead of just snapping stuff....

This man should have someone buy him asupporter member ship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

100% true.

You are 10x's more likely to break something (depending on set up) with Drag Radials then with slicks. My slicks are 26x8.5x15 I have made over 60 passes on them and at least 30 or 40 passes have had launches AT OR OVER 5k and thoes are all Dropped clutches. Now with 12-12.5 psi I wrinkle the sidewall, little to no shock is put to the axles and MOST stress is then transmitted to the cluch which slips slightly but doesnt break. I still have and WILL have my stock axles on the car for next year. If needed I will go to moser 28 spline hardened axles.

Ooh to address the topic, a good driver with 373's and stock zr tirs on an 04 gt ran 13.7....so yea hes is leaving something on the table. Do Lower control arms, get some adjustable shocks and hell be money.

my 1.6 short was with stock springs, adjustable springs and lower control arms, and stock clutch with 125k....

i did not know this, good to know.

my friend had to beat the crap out of his car to run 13.5s, it got out of the hole great with the 4.10s but didn't take long for it to fall on it's face.

why thank you...i've been meaning to be a supporter but yea...my freinds run 500whp hondas with slicks on stock axles and never break anything trapping 105 in the 1/8th...

That is the exact reason why I freak out at bad tech or someone solicitating a rumor or myth. There are a lot of track myths that ppl believe that are just that... a myth

the torque are and panhard bar will help to a point, but without sticky tires he isn't going to do anything. his results will be marginally better at most
