Been having valve train issues with the fastback. First pull the valve covers off, had to much crank case pressure, bought 110 dollar ford racing VC's. Then saw the pushrods were wrong, bought hardened 80 dollar pushrods. Put it together. Doesn't run worth a shit. Readjust valves, won't run for shit. Pull intake off, there goes expensive intake gaskets and fluids, pull lifters, Bad lifter, ate camshaft. Now i'm out a brand new 150 dollar cam shaft, and 70 dollar lifters. I quit. I'd have to pull the pan, pull the cam shaft, basically pull the motor back apart. Redo everything after i've spent 2 grand. I quit on cars, this is just one of the few things i've been bitten by on this fooking car. I'm going to buy a camaro, see if my luck is better on chevys. Damn car.

I've spent like.. 7k on top of the 6k for the car. I have 13k in a car that doesn't run, drive, or provide any sort of worth to me anymore. It is the reason the black hole idea came around. I'm so sad over it

Modulars FTW :)

But seriously that sucks! I have been waiting for you to get it finished since I would like to do the same thing one day.

I've been waiting to. I've spent so much money. All for naught.

Maybe you just need another set of eyes and hands around. You could be to stressed to see if you are maybe doing something wrong. Works for me when I get pissed.

That sucks Steven, but that is the way of engines. One small mistake wipes out everything you have done. It is like the last 289 that I built. The friggin engine was amazing for 1500 miles, then the poop hit the fan. The guy who did my heads reused the valve keepers, one failed and the engine ate a valve, poked a hole in the cylinder wall, whala 3k down the drain in a heartbeat. The worst part about it is that I was in rush hour traffic barely going 65.

Damn matt. Least you got 1500 miles out of it. I got 20 minutes. No joke. I'm considering parting the drive train out, and just sticking it in a barn or storage.

That sucks a bunch man but don't get let down. I went through this with my car but once yet FINALLY get it fired up and all the bugs worked out, all those problems go away, I was soooo happy to hear it roar to life with a completely different set-up. I do agree though, if you don't want to deal with it now, just park it somewhere and look around for cheap long blocks, they always pop up :).

Well the longblock is brand new. Like literally. It just decided to fall to pieces. Who knows what im going to do. I might just put a hydraulic roller kit in it, or just say fook it. Who knows.

Just say no to Camaro's. I'm down with chevy's tho, get you a nice 383 stroker and be done. :headbang: Of course.. It'd prolly be in a camaro..

I agree with the latter though, get a second set of eyes, and be sure everything is perfect before the next start up.

No worries. I know what I'm doing, did everything right. Considering I put the motor in, and had absolutely 0 leaks, and everything turned out clean and perfect. I guess it was to good to be true.

And the camaro is a 67. I'm going to look into buying it tomorrow. I had plans to buy it anyway, because it essentially the perfect pair of my two favorite cars period. Be nice to have them both before age 20.

I feel your pain, I had an 85 Mustang GT I paid 12,500 for it, it came with 351C. After a year I had to rebuild the engine, I paid a little over 8 grand thru an engine builder, another 1000 for the C6 to be rebuilt, needed a new custom drive shaft too. After about 2 years I got it all back together, a month later the floor mat got stuck on the throttle causing it to rev to 8500 RPM before I could react. Back to the engine builder for another 1700 in repairs. I had this car 9 years and maybe drove it 300 miles. Sometimes you just have to cut your loses and move on. Best of luck.

Don't plan on letting the car go. And I know, but chevys are enormously cheaper. I'm not preaching chevys, I work for ford, am son of a VP of a ford dealership, and am pro ford. I do like chevys, and its just something I've wanted. I'm tired of the BS this car keeps throwing at me. I spend the money to do it right the first time, and I get it thrown back in my face.

That really sucks man, I was really looking forward to seeing you get it done. That car looked like it was gonna be a hell of a ride, but I can't blame you for getting frustrated with it, but thats my sorta luck with cars. My 95 has been the biggest pit and still doesn't run quite right. Just leave it alone for a week or two and get it out of the way and go back and look at everything, could be something you're overlooking and a fresh set of eyes never hurts, I'd rather it be another few weeks than see you in a mullet-mobile... buti f you do start parting out all the drivetrain stuff, let me know, might be something I could use.
