Well, for the last month or so my car would drop down in idle as if it was a cammed car, but once you gave it gas it would pull back into the natural sounding revving. Some times this happened as soon as I cranked it up, then simply shutting it off and back on would fix it. Yesterday this would not work and I drove it home anyway, You could smell gasoline or something of that nature out the exhaust and the throttle seamed to stick. At one point it held 1k rpms by its self. I released the clutch and it pulled along and idled at that at the stop light. Next minute it idled at some un Godly low rpm that sounded like a cammed stang that was about to choke out.

What all should I check?

First thing I would check is the IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) it's a common problem on these and the 99-04 cars. You can remove it and try cleaning it but that dose not always work. The IAC is located on the front of the upper intake plenum and is held in place with 2 8mm bolts. If you do take if off and decide to try cleaning it be careful not to damage the gasket.

I think I remember having to clean that in the past. Even on my old Jeep Wrangler.

Guess I'll check that and clean my K/N FIPK.

Luckly, it was simple. I listened and listened for where the whistle was coming from till finally my ear lead me above the Throttle body.

It wasn't part of the Idle Air Control unit rather another plug like device that plugs in under the Throttle body. Popped it in, BOOM ran great. I also took a moment to Clean my K/N Filter. WOOT!
