They just installed my 4.10 ring and pinion, but there's whining noise, is it because they are new and new to break in. Or is it because they are installed wrong. Also what is the cheapest calibrator for the speedometer.

Sorry man but your gears have been installed wrong. For the record the best gears you can buy are the ford racing units which are made in the same machines as the factory units. take the car back to whoever installed them.

The ring and pinion is Motive Gears. I though that Motive gears were made by Ford Racing.

the whining seems to be quite common with the motives for a while people thought the motives were being mis-machined but the truth of the fact is that motive made FRPP gears for a while, how ever the new motives are being made in italy now, and there was a known issue with a certain number of gears whining but, people also have related this too an improper install, yet many gear installers say only use a true FPP part number and to stay away from the motives....so you can possibly relate it to the motive gears themselves but typically its the installers fault

there is a fill plug on the front of the diff housing. get a 3/8 ratchet w/ extension remove plug and put your finger in the hole and see if you can reach the fluid if not go ahead and top it off until fluid comes out of the hole then reinstall plug and see if that helps. usually the fluid bottles come with a tip so u can just squeeze it in.

I've never had a set of gears that I put in whine....Motive or Ford Racing or otherwise. Even used gears (how I managed that, I don't know). If the noise ain't gone in 80 miles, they're not in there right. If the noise is not EXTREMELY loud, and you can live it , it will be fine...otherwise, they need to be reshimmed before they fully seat.

idk man, i dont think a little whine can hurt, if it starts rumbling or rattling locking or anything else other than whining stop immediately and tow that prick back to the installer

Typically whine is due to the clearances. You may need to shim them. I think that's mainly why the FRPP gears don't do as bad as the motives, typically with the FRPP gears you don't have to reshim them but it's always a good idea to check.
