It's really hard now days to know who to trust as far as horse power advertising is concerned. Most of the time people love to throw ranges like 5 to 15 rwhp. But never specify that 5 rwhp is going to be avg for NA cars and 15 rwhp is going to be avg for supercharged cars. With that being said, I have four intakes to talk about. And no lets not bring up those race only hp at the top end torq loss at the bottom end intakes either, I'm sure you know the ones that I'm refering too. Anyway on with the comparison for intakes that will fit on to 96-98 GT's.
Ford Racing Performance Parts Intake http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=3330
Cost: $1,695.00
Ford Advertised Flywheel Horse Power: 35
Requires installation hardware kit Cost: $325 (probably cheaper somewhere else)
Sean Hyland Motorsports Comments http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com/online/product_info.php?cPath=30&products_id=192
-Comments: "Large diameter primary runners produce a significant horsepower increase in the 4000 to 6000 RPM range without loss or mid-range torque." Which is exactly where the npi Intake fails at 4k rpms.
Total Cost $2,020
Total Possible Flywheel HP: 35 Whether thats for NA or Blown is a mystery, will have to call Ford.
Horse Power Per Dollar Spent: $57.71
'96-98 4.6L PI Intake Adapter Kit from Livernois Motorsports http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/product.phtml?p=457
Cost: $499
Livernoise Advertised Rear Wheel Horse Power: 35 on a stock application (consider avg of 15% driveline loss on Manual Cars roughly 40 Flwheel Horse Power)
Requires no Installation Kit, Everything included.
Comments: "During testing we have seen as much as 35 rear wheel horsepower on a stock application. Tuning may be required due to the increase of airflow from the Non-PI Intake manifold." "The new kit uses specialized adapter plates, a modified intake manifold (un-modified manifold will not clear stock hood), and gaskets to make it a direct bolt on with limited alterations."
Total Cost: $499
Total Possible Horse power Flywheel hp 40+ off stock applications. need to call and find out what "Stock Applications" mean.
Horse power per dollar spent: $12.48
PI Intake, using RTV sealant http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=6125
Cost: $209
Non Advertised but forum agreed apon flywheel horse power: 20
Comments: "Additional modifications and parts required"
Total Cost: $209 + sealant
Total possible horse power: 20
Horse power per dollar spent: $10.45
P-51 Intake
Not sure if in can be fitted on 96-98 GT's. But it rocks for 99-04 GT's.
