My rings arent new, but most of the rest of the motor is. is it normal for it to smoke a little during harder acceleration?

its not a lot, but its enough to see, and it get into the interior a little as well.

Where exactly is it coming from? I hope you aren't the third of us that has that god awful tranny leak. Is it white smoke? Comes out the sides/through the vents/up through the shift boot/behind the intake after the car warms up?

its hard to tell. it shouldnt be anything "leaking", i just rebuilt the motor and put in a rebuilt tranny 2 days ago. i think its coming from the tail pipes, only a little gets into the interior

tell me more about the tranny leak though

We really don't know much other than it is leaking off the tranny case and onto the exhaust. From there it fumes up the sides of the car, behind the intake, and into the interior. I haven't had much of a chance to drive it, so I can't really tell you where exactly it leaks from on the tranny, but I do know it can not be from the shifter gasket, since that was very recently replaced.

If it smells similar to tranny fluid, and it's white. Then it is. We all just need to figure out exactly where it's leaking from and how to fix it.
I thought maybe it was an overflow type deal, since I just replaced my transmission fluid, and thought I may have put in a bit too much.

that could be my deal. i did just put 3.5 quarts of tranny fluid. i guess if thats the case, then when it gets down to the proper level it should stop. if it keeps happening i may have another problem, although i feel no difference in performance.

It has slowed on mine quite a bit, but I'm not sure how to check to see if I still have enough fluid in my tranny. It used to smoke quite a bit. Now it's almost non-existent. I wish you luck. Let me know if you figure anything out.

Is it true that you add enough fluid until it starts coming out the fill hole? We are talking about a T5 right?

What do you use to get the plug out? Last time I tried I couldn't pry it loose for the life of me, and I wouldn't call myself on the weak side of the spectrum. :wall:

Um... Lefty loosey... and maybe liquid wrench. I have not needed to take mine off, So I'm not sure what tool the T5 requires.

I just stick a 3/8" ratchet and mine and push like hell. If I can't break it lose that way, I'll throw a cheater pipe on the ratchet and go again, lol

+1

i jacked my car high enough to use a cheater pipe, and it was still hard, but i got it :thumb:

also, my smoke does smell like tranny fluid so i beleive this is the problem. i'm going to wait until it stops smoking, then check the fluid.
