When I fried my shortblock I got lucky on CL and picked up a new Ford Racing crate motor for $650, it was still in the plastic. Keep an eye out there. These LRS economy motors were about $750 a year ago, seem to have gone up by quite a bit.

Definitely some options in the $1000 range, if you have it built local, just make sure they are a reputable shop and the turnaround time is good. A lot of performance shops take FOREVER to get your stuff back, which amazes me. I've talked to guys waiting for 6+ months for stuff.

For grand you can have your block rebuilt and some change left over..

If I had my block rebuilt it will be more than a grand. Parts will be about $500, Machine work about $500 and Labor about $500.. It will be more than $1000.

Are you going to be installing the shortblock yourself?

Don't forget to factor in everything else you have to replace with the motor. Like gaskets/fluids/etc.

im trying to get a hold of a very good friend of mine (don't think he is up yet)
but he paid 399 for a shortblock from some engine place in kentucky, has been running it for 3 years now. He is pushing around 340 whp through this motor. even sprays it sometimes with a dry shot.
