His name was rob he was 34 he left behind a wife and young daughter and brother and sisters. I worked beside him for a few years and knew him for 8. I'm posting this here bc he was working on his car at home when the jack gave out and the car came down and he broke his neck. I can't confirm if he was using jack stands or not. Either way always be careful guys.

damn... RIP :( Always use jackstands!!! I always make sure to hit them with a hammer to make sure the jackstands are secure as well, can never be too careful.

I usually give my cars a few good shoves to insure they're not going anywhere. I'd rather break something with it falling off the jackstands from me pushing it than worrying about it coming down on me.

Stay safe guys.

This is the fourth person I've heard of who has been killed in that scenario.

Please folks, use jackstands. The extra two minutes could save your life.

Paul.

Thanks everyone. Like I said I don't know all the details I know he did not have a garage and his Driveway was dirt, not sure if the stands moved or were just not used. When I find out I'll will let you know. He was a big red sox and patriots fan and enjoyed going fishing and always talked
About his daughter which he called his little peanut. Rob
Was my partner for a few years we worked in the same unit together then he went to work reception at the other end of the facility. I last saw him on Thursday when I was in reception taking out 4 inmates wirh a supervisor to a local high school to talk about drug and alcohol addiction. As I was walking out of reception he said to me "hey I thought being around high school girls was against your probation"
Classic rob, he will be missed

Man that sucks, I always use jackstands but I admit there has been a time or two when I just slid under the car on the creeper for 30 seconds without one...definitely won't be doing that anymore.

What makes it even tougher is that we just lost another co worker 7 months ago in November. He had a massive heart attack while doing training excrecises on the firing range. He was in his mid 50's and his son who also works there was at the range when it happened

sorry to hear about your friend venom. it sucks when something like that happens. We had a guy killed last year in an attic because he didnt take 2 minutes to kill the breaker to the ac before working on the camera wires in the attic. went to crawl across the central air unit and they say he somehow grounded it out. He was around the same age as your friend and also left behind a wife and kids.

guys, in all you do a few minutes may feel like a waste when you are preparing to do anything, but what you may end up wasting is far more valuable than those few minutes!!

Man, stories like these scare me. Sometime i get real weary about being under my car. Especially under a car with subframe connectors, you can have the car up on 4 jack stands completely off the air, and you can jack up one corner and the entire side of the car will go up.. Now i always check all four jackstands before crawling under the car.
