well guys im putting in a new shortblock and I decided a tubular kmember might as well go in anyways. Ive been looking for a used one and i found one for 220 shipped. Its a qa1 and includes the spring perches. From the little reading ive done ive heard that qa1 actually move your tire foward if you use stock a arms. Anyone run this way or did you all switch over to aftermarket ones? Would it be safe to use the stock ones?
thanks

First thing you want to do, is find out if the K-member in question will work with your control arms. Maybe the kit you are looking at comes with control arms, I'm not too clear on that from what you've written. Secondly, it is usually the control arms that move the front wheels forward, not the k-member. You can call QA1 and find that out from them directly. No better source that than.

I personally called QA1. They do not recommend their k-members on the street(this was 2 years ago when i bought mine). however, ive never heard of k-members causing breakage. i do know installing them is tricky. you have to shave the nut to fit the a-arm bolts. I have the QA1 but yet to drive because im in the transition of installing everything. i am also using their control arms with GMS coilovers.

I have a QA1 K-member on my car now, had it installed free from my accident ;). They had to shave the stock A-arms a bit to get them to fit, and a few other things needed to be grinded, but the wheels were NOT pushed forward 2" at all. Here is how it sits, stock suspension up front with just the QA1 K-member.

yea the 2inches forward and something about modding the fenders made me stay away from them. but looks like it centered the wheel perfect. hmm might have to look into them more.

is the engine in the car? cuz that might change it all.
lmao no, my car just sits that high :p. I'm doing the suspension this winter so it will sit lower. They had to grind the part on the control arm that bolts to the k-member, the round part, it rubs the k-member so a little bit of grinding and they fit good :).

sorry to but in but they say it isn't meant for the street, is it meant for drag? because I was thinking about throwing in a tubular when I do my engine swap but I do all road courses and I'm not sure what kind of stess they can handle

the QA1 was designed with drag racing in mind. some others like maximum motorsports were designed to corner. the QA1 can do cornering but they designed it for light weight, straight line, etc... i have read of many without issue driving them on the street though. for a road course car though you should definitely go with a road course designed k-member.

if you compare side by side to MM's K, you'll notice the lack of rear brace. that brace is integrated in MM's and Granatelli's. they both are heavier in weight compared. i LOVE the clearance on the QA1. ill take pictures tomorrow on loaded ride height.
