So i am installing my Auto Meter Electric water temp Gauge next week.... but i am still undecided on where to mount the damn sensor. I have been reading on every damn Forum on the different mounting locations. I really dont care where it needs to be mounted, i Just want the best Reading Possible.

So Guys, where do you guys think the best place to have the Water Temp sensor Mounted? Where do you Guys have Yours Mounted? I have read alot and narrowed it down to these locations.

1. Coolant Plug on Side of Block (Heard This Give Bad Readings Due to Heat)
2. Tap the Thermostat Housing
3. Auto Meter Heater Hose Tap
4. Autometer Radiator Tap

what do you guys suggest?

I've been told that that is the best/most accurate place for it to be. And the people that told me this are people that i would trust with my car, and that isn't something i do alot of.

I guess to me I would put it so you can get the truest reading on actual water operating temp. I would say thermostat housing. It would seem to me if it was in the radiator it would give you a cooler reading since it would have been cooled already.

Either tap the thermostat housing or just stick it in one of the ports in the intake. I've been through this before and tested various ports on the intake. There was never more than a 3* variation between all of them.

You could just buy a aftermarket housing. I have a chrome on that I bought from someone on this site, and it has a plug where i could of put it but i figured it was better hidden where the stock one was.

Why bother? The intake is easier to get to, and you'll get an accurate reading. This isn't some complex science, just stick it in the manifold and call it a day.

well, i would have to drill and tap a hole for it. I would have to remove the manifold because i would wanna do it clean and get no shavings in the cooling system.

the bug on the side is already tapped and not that hard to access.

.....i could do the Thunder Dave Thermostat Housing Mod

Doesn't your intake already have a spare 3/8" NPT port in it? Or did the modulars not come with them?

Popping the t-stat housing off would be super easy. Only problem is that 3/8" NPT tap isn't going to be cheap. I bought one a while back and I think it was like $20. That sucked.

ford put the temperature sensors on the crossover probably for a reason, but idk why :dunno:. you or a shop could probably make another hole and tap it somewhere on the crossover.

what I did was put my autometer sensor where the stock one was, and I remounted the stock one in a different location.
