I have a 94 gt vert with underdrive pullies, cold air, smog delte, typhoon upper/lower, 75 mm throttle body, bassani short tube headers, h-pipe with flowmaster muffs, and a tremac tranny and i am getting 10-12 miles to the gallon at best. The check engine light is on and i was wondering what in the check engine could be causeing my poor mileage?

o about a million things (smog most likely) could be multiple things. just scan it and you will find out thats what they are for. 10-12 is not very good for a fairly stock car something is definately wrong

okay...

check the plugs and wires... replace if nec...

check timing... adjust if nec...

Replace the Cap and Rotor if you haven't in the past 50k or so...

Run fuel injector cleaner

Thats the basics... You may have a bad O2 sensor... You may have a clogged injector... You might not be running on all cylinders...

its a mustang and with the gas prices now fuggit. i dont even pay attention any more. thats why i bought the escort (4cyl) and goes forever on a full tank. :thumb:

run the codes and see whats wrong. maybe clean ur air filter, add a new fuel filter, or just do a full tune up if its been awhile.

Ya man get those codes pulled ASAP. They take seriously 5 minutes to read. Just pull the code and whatever number you get it will be 3 digits post it on here even i will look in my book. Its a sticky at the top of this subforum. We can go from there.

You got one hell on a problem on your hand... Let's go over the easy stuff first.

1. Get the code for your check engine light. This will give you a direction in wich to work.

2. If that lead nowhere, get a tune up, with injector clean-up. Not a bottle of redline stuff, the real professionnal stuff.

3. Get the timing of your distibutor checked out. Make sure all cylinders are firing.

4. Check that your catalytic converters are not clogged.

5. Get your camshaft and timing gear checked out. Maybe it or they spun a tooth and/or got loose somehow. (unlikely)

6. Check your oils for anti-freeze and/or gas in it.

7. Get all of your cylinder check for compression.

Hope it helps. Note that it is up to you to do that stuff in the oppropriate order as it may differ from poeple to poeple.
