Im looking at getting a new DD.

Want list:
- AWD or 4WD
- SUV or Wagon
- 4 Banger or V6
- Under $20k
- 2004+

I've been thinking of a 06 Audi A4 Avant Quattro 2.0T, but open to suggestions. Thought I would post on here for some more ideas.

I was tempted by the bimmer x5 or mercedes g class but I cant imagine them being that great of a vehicle and maintenance is probably expensive. Was also thinking of a Ford Escape as well, but the one Id want (09+ 6 speed) are a bit out of my price range.

Just don't get a crossover.. I hate them. I agree with the above statement though, Subaru ftw.

Anything German is going to have expensive maintenance and repairs Matt. How much are you looking to spend?

Not true. Parts for my BMW 528e (1988) are dirt cheap.... cheaper than my mustang.

Depends of the german car. The parts are usually cheap, the labor is what kills you. There are exceptions to this rule.

I'm in the same boat Matt. i took a 08 A4 out and really liked it but it was a little small. they did a redesign in 09 so that's what i'm looking for now. I really thought about a subaru but i'm just not thrilled with size of the wrx and the forester is just meh. I want something with a little more luxury.

as far as maintenance costs, most german car will be more expensive than domestic but that's not a rule. I figure audi is still half a volkswagen so the parts should be cheaper. BMW and Mercedes are just BMWs and Mercedes; they don't have a cheaper model. My Dad keeps telling me to check out the infinity g37x's. Killercanary from stangnet has one and he loves it.

I currently have a 98 subaru outback awd, been a solid car but terrible on brakes. Have had some VWs in the family and they have always been pretty solid, which is why I was thinking the audi. I want something thats good on gas, thats why I was thinking the 2.0L Turbo, the motor has been around for ever.

My favorite thing in the world for a DD, is the Jeep Grand Cherokee. In 04 you could get a V8 with a 2wd/4wd AWD/4hi Lock/4lo lock transfer case as well. All 6 cylinders are available with that case.

We have an '04 Explorer and its one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. Granted it's a V8 and an Eddie Bauer, but the AWD makes an ice-covered road feel like blacktop. Mountaineers are also very nice inside and out if well equipped.

maybe nobody wants an 88 BMW and that's why they're cheap. Personally I think they are hella ugly and would never want one, we are talking about newer cars here and the new stuff is expensive to fix. My stepdad just got an '00 Z3 and the airbag light is on; it will probably remain on because the module to fix it is $800.

Grand Cherokee has my vote as well, parts are cheap and they're not hard to work on. I love taking roadtrips in my mom's 95, comfy, and decent on gas even with 240k miles. The newer ones are only nicer

I thought jeeps were POS.

I've had 6 Grand Cherokees, and two Wrangler's. My current DD is a 95 Grand with 224k on it, it get's 15.4 mpg out of a 318 V8 and full time 4wd. I beat it like it owes me money constantly, no issues. In your budget, you're looking at an 04 with around 100k, and it'll easily go another 100k with no real trouble.

Heated seat's, power everything, hell my 09 would turn on my lights at home from in the Jeep lol. They're great.
