Hi, a friend of mine has an extra '02 GT motor lying around from a project that he never got around to....I am thinking of dropping his '02 motor into my '96. What would I need to complete the swap? Can I use my factory wiring harness? How about the motor mounts? Any info/advise or links about the swap would be appreciated. Thanks

Motor mounts will be the same. Wiring harness will not. Just off the top of my head, the coil packs are different... Im sure there are other differences as well. Try to get the harness.

This swap can be done can't it? You have to run the '96 - '98's coil pack ignition but big deal. I do know the MAF & TB are a touch larger.

I'm considering installing a Romeo '02-'04 engine into my '98 GT.

Use your 96 ECU, wiring harness & coil packs. If the '02 used the opposite trans. (you have a manual and it was attached to an auto or vice-versa), you'll need your flywheel. Also, the PI motors only used 1 coolant sensor. Your wiring harness has 2 and the ECU reads from 2 so you'll have to tap somewhere for that (I tapped into the t-stat). Other than that, it's pretty much a direct swap. You'll gain power (more HP than TQ) and get better gas mileage.

Ok, thanks for the info. Can I use my tranny in my '96 or will it not bolt up to the '02? Thanks

Check out the flywheel - when I did mine the Windsor 4.6 (from an 01) had the 8 bolt flywheel. My 98 had the 6 bolt, it gave me some problems with the clutch and pressure plate set up. Other than that everything else was easy. Tap a hole in the water neck for the coolant sensor and use your current ignition set up. Get a tune!

If your intake has the upgraded aluminum crossover, and the pi intake does aswell, just swap your crossover to the pi intake and no drill/tapping is required. You will probably need to swap the timing case cover and your front accessories because the newer pi case covers don't have a place for the coil pack brackets to bolt to I believe.

I did that swap from a 98 to an 02, Everything went in easy. I used my ecu and just kept the plug wire set up.
