Get an escort lol. I've got a 95 that I just fixed up and its a great little car. I didn't even know how to drive a stick car until last night after I fixed it. I know what you mean as far as having experience first... People forget what its like to not be experienced lol

Ugly and stupid IMO. If my dad was gonna buy me a DD, I'd get an old Ranger or Jeep. That'd be waaaay more fun than a damn El Camino. Take it off roading, jump hills, etc.. sooo much more fun then a 1980ish POS lol

I was in the same boat as you 2 years ago.. I had my 95 Gt, sucking more gas than I cared for, and having to borrow someones car in the winter..
Not fun.. So I ended up buying a 94 Mazda Protege (pretty close to the afformentioned Ford Escort), there weren't a whole lot of 4x4s for sale locally at the time I was looking, so i settled for it, and it has been a damn good car.. Less than $1200 invested (including $350 purchase price), and it gets 30MPG... can't beat a beater. The whole point of the beater/DD is to save money, but like many others have mentioned, while the El Camino might
be a good deal, in good shape, yada yada, it probably will be more headache than it's worth. Down the road when you have school/career/family figured out would be a good time to get a car to "tinker" with, but when you have limited resources such as time, money, and possibly automobile mechanics (no offense), it will get frustrating, quick.

I think the EL would be a crappy DD, i see nothing desirable about owning that car at all to be honest.


Also I'd like to comment on the BMW Acura deal, Handz your BMW is ass ugly. In fact I wouldn't even pay $900 for that garbage. Jon's TL in my opinion is at least ten times nicer than your BMW, not to mention in 5-10 years it'll still be worth something and probably cost him far less in maintenance and repairs in the long run.

Any E39 M5 around a comparable price to what Jon paid for his TL would not only be a much older car but also have much more mileage. Even still they aren't comparable cars, I think Jon's choice with the TL will overall be a much smarter choice.

yeah. there only problem is how light they are, sometimes it hurts them when they're in the mud, but its the same way with wranglers.

and samaris are expensive as hell around here if you can find them. they normaly go around 3k stock with bodies that look like swiss cheese...

You need experience to drive a Mach 1? It's a regular mustang, not a race car.

i can drive it just fine. but ive been driving for 2 months and ive already got a ding in my rear bumper.

300hp at 16 is a little much, and its easy to get in trouble in it when youre with friends, or when some guy tries to race you in a punto. (lol that happened last night, we didnt race though)

im talented enough to handle the power of the car just fine, but its the little "dings" that im worried about. once again id much rather it be some other beater rather than the mach.

If you've never driven a old car daily, then you can't talk. I have, I've had my fair share. People with old 350 2bbl automatic trucks and cars get near 20mpg on the highway. Ridiculous to think its going to be a piece of junk. It would probably still be running by the time your modulars fall to pieces.

Connor, I'll help you out some buddy since Im from your area. I drove a 76 gmc with a semi built 350 for a while during high school. Yea it was fun since it was kinda clean and sounded nice. But at least every couple of days I would be under the hood working on something or dealing with old wires messing up. Old vehicles are really fun, but I sold my truck to fund go fast parts for the car, and Im rather glad I did so. I will agree with Steven though, maintained they last forever and 305's and 350's seem to been pretty plentiful and very disaster proof when taken care of. Whatever you end up doing though best of luck buddy.

I'm sure you know what you're saying but the truth is we're not in it's day anymore, I don't know how you could argue the fact that there aren't better daily drivers out there right now. Ya know?

There might be better dailys out there, but I don't think you could beat old muscle for cheap fun. If all he is using this for it getting him back and forth to school, I don't see what a big deal it is if it breaks down every now and then. He still has the Mach if he needs it and he can dick around with the older car without worrying too much about it. Old SBC parts are dirt cheap and they're pretty easy to work on compared to the cramped engine bays of FWD 4cyls.

For what FTS is wanting, I think an older V8 would fit the bill pretty good. Realistically, I know that it won't be the best car dependability wise, but if he wants something to tinker with that doesn't really have to get him far, why not?

I guess I figure if he wants a car that's fun that he can tinker with then that would be his mach, a daily driver isn't something I'd want to be tinkering with, it's something I'd want to be reliable, comfortable and somewhat cheap to drive and maintain. Something with a/c, power windows and locks, something that rides nice and I guess not something that damn old. What's the point of having a fair weather Mustang if you're spending time modding and fixing your daily driver, and when it's broken you have to drive the Mustang? Seems backwards.
