I have a 95 GT that's Canary Yellow. I have to replace the front/rear bumper covers and passenger fender. Wondering if anyone on here has used that dip your car kit to matte coat their car. I was going to use the true metallic sulfur yellow color because that looks close to the stock color. Opinions?

No.

I would recommend avoiding dip and just doing it right by painting the car. It's just a bad solution unless used in a temporary situation. Dip just looks horrible.
However, if you just have to dip your car... just do the whole thing. Don't just do a couple body parts, no way it will match and it'll look like ass. Also, my experience with the enhancement dips (non colours like matt, gloss, metallic) is they don't work well.

Orange, whats your thoughts on plastidip grills and such? I haven't seen any in person, but pics always look good, has good reviews. Thinking about doing the F150 grill center bars, with painted to match surround (like an FX4)

Duly noted.....but when I was talking about matting, I meant the whole car not just the pieces I was repairing. I was just trying to picture a matte canary yellow with the Matte black XXR 531 wheels I just bought. Also yellow calipers to go with. Wheels are 18x11 and 18x9.5.[emoji16]

I've done wheels and grills and stuff like. It's okay... You need to do it correctly though or else it's impossible to remove. I also didn't like the texture.
I wouldn't do wheels again, it actually did well through a winter but I just didn't like the way it looked. Powder coat is much better.

Plasti dip is okay for little items on a winter beater or something, but anything you care about I would only use it as a temporary tester for paint ideas. Even as a tester it's rather expensive for what it is and it can be a nightmare to remove if you get the coats wrong.

I knew what you meant, that why I said the enhancement coats like matt typically don't work well. It will probably look really cloudy clear coat.

I had dip on my old wheels for a little while, honestly id rather scuff a lousy paint job and re-spray it than try to remove that stuff again. It's not nearly as easy as it looks to remove if it's been on for a significant amount of time.

I wanted to try dip on my 96 since I wasn't going to waste 4-5k on paint. After looking into it and talking to people who use it regularly, you must put on 6-8 coats so that it is thick enough to peel off easily. If you don't get the correct coverage it can be a nightmare to peel. I think people are afraid to put too much like with paint and think it will run etc.

I know plenty of people who dipped their whole car to cover up body work. IMO it looks unfinished but is better than having mismatched panels or exposed body filler.

Ive only ever dipped wheels. I've done 4-5 coats of grey with 2-3 coats of metallic glossifier and it resembles actual metallic paint. Idk if it would look good on an entire car though, I'd still rather have real paint. As a temporary thing I think it's 100% ok, if you don't mind spraying/pealing it.
