Well, if anybody has seen my previous post I recently just got a set of Crower Stage II blower cams. With these in my car, I am expecting about 420/400+tq through the built auto and high stall. This got me thinking....i may just wait until the winter to do the install and build the motor up along with working the non pi heads. My next step is definately to get the Crower valve springs and steel retainers. Just wanted to see if anybody knew of any places I could check out for:

Porting/Polishing NON PI heads
Forged rods/crank/pistons package

Do you think it would really even be worth the extra work/time/money to invest in the porting/polishing of the heads and forging the bottom end? At the same boost level would it be possible to see closer to 500rwhp?

if i were u if u plan on keeping the car for awhile i would just get ported pi heads for now. and when the motor lets go get a built shortblock that can handle 700+hp

won't PI heads raise the compression on the motor? thats the only reasoning in me wanting to stick with my non pi heads...

If you are going to forge the engine you can get PI's because you just compensate for the smaller chamber with a bigger dish piston.

PI heads ported will certainly flow better than ported npi heads. I have HEARD thought that ported npi heads flow about the same as pi heads. I have just heard a lot of people having good gains for pi heads... I say replace things as they happen. Build when the motor goes. JMO

I would just hate to install these cams, and have to dig back into the motor and have to take them right back out and build it up. Even with these cams in I am pushing the limits of my motor...should be in the 420/410 range through an auto. Thats a little over 500 to the crank. Do you think it would be a little too much if I ported/polished my heads when I did my cams?

Yeah thats a good point... almost inevitable that the motor wont handle it for a long time. Are you going to build your block or buy a mmr or similar one?? I may have to retract my previous statement and say build her up while you have it taken apart.

well considering I am doing the cam install, I was planning on just buying a forged rotating assembly and getting my heads done and putting everything all back together from there. I think that sounds like the smartest/safest bet. It will just take much more time to complete.
