I am rollin down the road and this WRX guy passes us, we try to race, but he turned and I lost him. Later that night I was hangin out with my friend and some of his buddies come, the crazy part was one of his buddies was actually the WRX from earlier that night. Any how the race started from about a 20 roll, I tried to start out of first, but instead I had to start in second right after first so the car kinda bogged right at the start; I was kind of pissed because I thought we were going to be going from a dig). Right at the start he pulled on me about a car and then it was dead even with me slightly edging up at the end. I thought I would have started to catch up more rapidly, but I never did :crybaby2: .. Although the best part of this whole thing is that my friend ( who is the biggest numnuts/braggart on this side of the Mississipi sp? lol), who has a stock 04 STI, raced me from the exact same speed, the start of second gear again for me, and I completely obliterated him from start to finish. I know the kid with the STI(~300hp) is a shitty driver but I dont think that explains why he never started catching up to me when the WRX (~230hp)stayed in front of me.
Mods to the cars: 97 cobra: intake, exhaust (no cats), 4:10's
WRX: intake, catless everything

I used to make a lot of $$ racing WRX cars with my bone stock 88 GT 5.0. they are great for launches, gravel and jumping, but suck at the top end of the drag strip. It seems like they hit a wall at about 90 or so. its because of their short gearing and full time AWD. they go through 4 or 5 gears in the 1/4, where we go through 3 or 4.

My current car just walks away from them, as long as we dont go from a dig, then I gotta play catch up.

They probably die at higher speeds because the stock turbo is so damn tiny. There was a new style hatchback si that was hangin out with us that I didn't get to race because his clutch burnt up, his turbo was easily over twice the size of the WRX's.

Turbo size may have something to do with it, but my experience is that they are way under geared. ah well.

Good cars but not that great in stock form as for the reasons stated above. Ive taken down more then a few at the track before.

You should have raced him from a dig, roll racing is gay and dont worry about AWD from a dig, just b/c they have it does not mean they know how to drive. Ive cut better 60' times (that were not all that impressive) then AWD cars at the track b/c they could not drive for crap.

Yeah I was kind of pissed because I was under the impression that we were going to go at it from a dig. I agree with you on the awd deal, most guys think any car with awd from a dig are invincible.

Ya but how many of those WRX drivers know how to launch the car? You have no idea how often at the track I see guys bouncing off the rev limiter launching it only to bog it off the start. I wanna say almost everyone bogged the hell out of it. Plus its always nice to beat those punk ass kids who thing that their car is bad ass cause it sounds like a whislin lawn mower.

I could not agree with you more about beating kids who think their car is badass because it sounds like a whislin lawn mower.

Doesnt take much thought in hitting the rev limiter and then dumping the clutch. I could easily beat a 04 and up STI until those 2007 models. They got an upgrade so I could only hang with the WRX. With my HCI combo though, the new STI's arnt that impressive.

thought the same thing about the wrx. Not that impressive on the street, but great for rally. guess they should stay on the dirt, eh?

I mean, by all conventional meathods I will not say that a WRX or STI is a ricer POS. The only thing I hate is the kids that drive the cars (I know there are exceptions) but for the most part they think they have the fastest thing to hit the streets. Too many of them in my area REALLY kills those cars for me. Except I did see a new EVO the other day pound one into the ground.... Then I raced him. I was ahead until the round-about. I slowed down and he took it like it was nothing at like 90MPH.. I almost pooped a little.

You almost pooped a little?

I wasnt meaning the WRX was a bad car, just confused. you know, like SUV's with 20" rims. only its a rally car with street car tires.

Dude, those evo's can handle a LOT better than my car. I mean, my suspension is almost stock so thats why, but I was just commenting on how good it can turn. I dunno, I almost at the point to buy a new car. And I dont wanna sell the stang but she is being such a Pain in the arse right now!

Griggs or MM K member, coil overs, Panhard bar and coil overs there, LCA's, and a torque arm or Steeda 5 link 2, then you can hang with the Evo.

Whats up with your stang, anyways? It cant be worse than a slamming clutch and dying at intersections, catching itself on fire and leaking oil all over the garage, not to mention the local cruise parking lot.

I ended up getting a DD so I could mess with my 94 whenever I wanted.

Shit breaking is annoying, I would have to agree. Mine just lets the clutch out like you are dumping it every time you pull away from a stoplight. Lesson: dont buy a drag race clutch for a street car. and it hasnt lit on fire in about 2 years.

YEah, having a hot rod mustang as a daily driver can get old, esp after it breaks a few times during the week.

I hear that...my car seems to leak every type of fluid possible in the winter.
