I have no cats on with my exhaust system, so my check engine light is on(I checked the codes)
I know MIL eliminators will fix this, but can a hand held tuner fix this instead?

If you get your car tuned, it can be turned off by the tuner in the preferances and then loaed in to your sct xcal or whatever you happen to be using.

id get the xcal now, just throw the base 93 on it and you can turn the rear 02s off. then when you get some more things done to your car you can take the tuner to a shop and have it dynotuned with the same tuner.

Get it tuned, and a good tuner will be able to fool the ecu into thinking everything is ok. Helps if you have emission inspection.

See, i guess I'm different, but if you're stock or close to stock, i would just get the MIL eliminators and save the 400 dollars for a tune when it counts.

Does not having cats make the car run richer? Ive been told that since the cats arent there, the computer thinks its running too lean and pumps more gas through to make up for it, is this true?

You just smell more gas, since it's able to shoot right out the tailpipe now.

I agree.. If you have no need for the tune, why spend the money.. I say get the MIL's... Mine work fine and they seen some pretty deep puddles.

Just some FYI

All handheld tuners cannot modify any OBDII parameters anymore. A custom tune must be done and the tuner must make the adjustments in the tune. The govt. made it illegal for the the Diablo, XCal, and such to have the option to adjust OBDII stuff right out of the box.

You never could adjust it on your own one SN95 car's, it's always been in the tunes themselves.

i was under the impression that MILs cause the car to run rich.

Nope, rear O2's have nothing to do with the fuel strategy, simply inform the computer that the cats are there and functioning.

The older firmware from SCT lets you adjust the rear 02 and EGR values to on/off. I bought an SCT Xcal2 on eBay from a guy who never updated to the new version. Mine is the 9415A model.
After the government stopped allowing the emissions changes out of the box, all SCT XCal2 handhelds went to the 9400 firmware which removed the 02/EGR configs...

Back on topic. I think you should just get MIL's personally if you're saving up for a dyno tue later on.

I've got some brand new MIL's for sale. PM me...

Huh, I preordered my Xcal 2, and initially, it had no end user adjustability, just loaded tunes, then 18 months later when they did uypdate everything (and everyone had to get new tunes) I could only adjust Fuel, Spark, and rpm I beleive.
