odometer trip and speedometer arent working and i just replaced the gears behind the speedo all the other gaughes are working could it be the speed sensor the speedo does work sometimes so could it still be the speed sensor or gear in the tranny even though the speedo works sometimes ??

If the c/c does NOT work then the computer isn't getting the info from the Vehicle Speed Sensor signal at all, so the issue is at the sensor. Usually it's the gear on the end of the sensor.
If the c/c DOES work, then the info from the VSS is good. So the issue is at the cluster.
Ouch quick question. I went by a speed sign and noticed my speed is off 5 mph. So if im going 45 im really going 40 and if im going 50 im really going 45.
No telling how long the gears been installed on my ca.r Does this mean my actual car mileage is off? I brought it @ 97K miles. Does this mean my car probably had like 100K really?

Is it exactly 10 off at all speeds, Or does the ratio get farther off as the speed increases?
And yea if the speedo is off so will your odometer. they're both driven from the same sensor.

wait and see after the vss gear replacement.
Okay, i changed the gear (found it a high performance ford dealer...)
Still doesn't work. Cruise control doesn't work either.
Speedometer is no longer choppy though.

did you ck the wiring from the vss when you replaced the gear?
Did you get the clip back on the end of of the VSS after the new gear was installed?

Its more than likely the sensor, I went through that problem right before my speedometer stopped working. Also at 60 mine says im going 70 I dont have the tag on the rearend saying what gears are in the car so idk what gears and speedo gear is in the car. I'm about to put the one for 2.73 if this doesn't fix the problem any ideas?

the 23 tooth is for the 3:55 gear ratio.
If you have a 3:73 or higher the only way for it to be correct is with a speed cal.
If the speedo if off the same amount through the entire range then your needle is off.
If the speedo is off 1-2 MPH at say 30 MPH, and is off 4-5 MPH at 60, etc, then the prob is with the tranny gear of vss gear.

Speedo works perfect far as moving without jumping or hesitating.. its just 5mph off. The odometers and trip meter is still broke though+cruise contolCC'S95GT said:

Has the gear in the back of the cluster been replaced yet. That is what turns the odometers.
