Is there any major diff if I'm going to buy a 351 as far as the 351's that came in mustangs vs those that come in f250's ? I'm asking as far as the short block realy since if I buy one it will be a rather long term build. Thanks in advance guys

not to many mustangs came with 351's except back in the late 60's and early 70's.
Are you going to have a carbed 351 or a fuel injected one?

all a carburator is, is a metered fuel leak.

some of the blocks were stronger, I think the 70 is one of the strongest because of the nickel content. then 96^ truck motors are roller blocks. roller blocks are weaker but they dont require 500 bucks in lifters to run a roller bump stick.

my set up is a 70 truck block, .030 over, jasper remaned. got a deal on retro fit roller lifters to convert to roller cam.

also a 351 will not fit under the stock hood, without drop mounts and spacers between the k-member and the body. ur exhaust will not bolt up to it because the 351 is 3 inches widers and 1.5 inches taller i believe.

yeah i have been tihnking of a 351 build vs a blower on my 302. so with your 70 block everything will go together just like our 95's? ive read before about some being roller vs non roller motors. i need to start looking for deals on parts. plan on building one within the next couple years

Was mainly wondering cuz I have a friend that wrecked his truck (he was rearended rather nasty ( no lube lol) , but his motor only has 26k on it and he is willing to sell it to me for $450 so was looking at my options as far as a build later down thhe road. Lemmi know if its worth doing ( my way of looking at things is I want it done right the 1st time and done damn good too , if that means more $$ oh well , just means ill have to wait longer but when she is done I won't have to worry ........as much......

you said 96^ my friends is actualy a 94 351w roller engine , is this good to start with ? what would be the max HP that would be safe on this block ? as well as if i was going to do a build other than fitting it in under my stock hood what would be the 1st things i would address ? (main question is should i start with this block or find another.)

if u change the front cover for ur 95 302 cover and water pump. other than that, u'll need different accesory brackets (i'm only running water pump and alternator on mine with a custom alt bracket) headers will be different as well and obviously lower intake...but other than that yes, all bolts are basically in the same place. the 351 is just a taller 302 block.

I may be wrong on the date for roller blocks its been a while since i researched. basically it doesnt matter what block you get, unless u have stupid crazy power goals, you're not going to break it. there are tons of windsors in the 800+ range with no problems at all. that engine with low miles is a good deal if you're getting the whole thing. as for whats the first thing to address it all depends on what you're getting with this engine. i would throw away the heads and cam and get something like a windsor sr, edelbrock 2.02 rpm, afr 185, or another similar head depending on ur budget and a custom ground cam. as a truck motor its gonna have lower compression, 9.5-1 or 9-1 i believe, so its a great low boost or N20 engine.

quick question, do you happen to know where to find the accessory brackets for the swap?

oh really? cool good info thanks so much! So besides the pan and all that stuff, id need to swap out the timing cover and wp for my pieces, and get me some brackets off like an early/mid 90's 351 truck. im really leaning towards a all motor 351 build

get the swap pan from ford racing for around 100 bucks, comes with pick up, fox style pan and dipstick. If you're gonna run all the accesories i'd just run a complete truck front set up, cover and all. remember the 351 is 28oz imbalance, so u'll need 351 specific balancer and flywheel/flexplate. bellhousings are the same for 351 and 302.

mid 90's changed to roller motors. something that old wont be if its original. if it runs thats a good buy. depending on mileage it'd be a good idea to do a re-build.
