So i was in sheetz earlier, as I walked past the magazine rack Car and Driver cought my eye oddly.... On the cover it said mustang wins!! It beat the new Camaro and Challenger! With wayyyy less power and a way smaller engine. The challenger ran the same 1/4 as the stang did, the camaro was faster but with a 6.2. The mustang was just a better overall car, and it handled better, even with the solid axle. I had to share with some guys who'd share the excitement lol. That sure has to piss off the camaro guys :laughing5:

Look at the curb weight of all 3, and you tell me the new mustang is fat compared to its competitors. I saw a new camaro the other day when I was driving and he was beside me, the thing is HUGE, makes my dinky 94 look small! The challenger...well its a 4 door chassis with 2 doors :p.

Well, the one big reason the mustang gt is just now doing so well is.... TADA stock 3.73 gears!!! YAHOO, the bullit suspension package is now standard equipment.

Honestly not too surprised, i expect the SRT8 and SS to be quicker than the GT but overall I'd expect the Mustang to be the better all around car. Ford has been working on this thing longer than the competition, it should be an overall better vehicle.

and the optional 3.73 gear was a great idea, I personally think they should even offer a 4.10 gear in case someone just wanted to order it like that.

You would think that after all these years they would offer a gear like 4.10s

or even 4.30

3.73s is about as short as you can go without risking gear whine.
The factory will never go steeper than that as an option without a long disclosure signature.

I concour, I started noticing the whine with a friends '69 Mach 1 with a 3.90 gearset. A '70 Chevelle SS 454 with 4.88's I rode in years ago whined really bad. That car was some scary &^@(!

not in any way surprised. those thing are lead sleds with big engines. another reason why gm/Chrysler are in the shitters...can't build decent cars.

Well certain Gm trucks come with 4.10s as an option, i know because my dad has an 03 surburban and he ordered them as an option, i dont understand why they cant just throw those gears in a smaller car...why cant cars be ordered like back in the 70s

Because people who buy trucks really can't complain as much, they bought a truck. If you can sue McDonalds for the coffee being hot and you being an idiot and spilling on yourself, you can sue Ford for giving you a factory 4.10 option and your over sensitive ears hear the slightest gear noise on decel since day one and 3 sets of gears later it is still not resolved.

on the 8.8, you only have so much room inside the pumpkin. you start taking teeth off the pinion and cramming more and more teeth on that ring to get those high ratios and you're seriously changing the dynamics of the helicoil engagement pattern - noise is inevitable with those higher tooth counts. if you enlarge the size of the housing and the ring you can stave this problem off a little better but it's always going to be a problem at some point.

tru. and i know i bring up alot of shit about saleen..(mainly cuz i own one) but in the s-197 extreme it comes 4:10s standard, and i know even for a base 3 valve saleen it is possible to get the 4:10s as an option...if they can do it, why not ford.....

EVERY single extreme car we ever saw at JDM the owner wanted 3.73s. And they did whine right from Saleen. We did lower pulley, (non 08s) 08 front mount, 08 air kit, longtubes, x pipe, dyno tune...they'd fry tires through 4th with the 4.10s. absolutely wicked fun cars.

saleen is also pretty infamous about having shitty customer concern...if your 4.10s whine in your $100,000+ car that's a build one of a couple hundred, they don't care. please hold.

I take that back. the shop vehicle was a 08 extreme (sterling, 1 of 25). and we went 4.56s with that. but that's a dedicated racecar, runs 9.90s and has 37 miles on the odometer. then again, to get technical, it was only assigned a bumper number after the car was completed and being raced. it DOES NOT have the appropriate documentation or riveted tags on the floorboards under the carpet or under the hood - it was shipped to us painted and complete minus motor and trans. it's not a H302 car like it is supposed to be, it's a 5R55S driven by a JDM 298 stroker. So it's technically number 26. But whatever.
