Hello,

I have a 1995 mustang Gt-s 5.0 auto. It is black on black. I currently have non catted h pipe and flowmaster catback, as you can see it is still a baby. I love the sn95 body, i like the foxes but the sn95 is what i really love, the only problem is my car has 165k miles, i replaced things that needed to be replaced, i am currently the 2nd owner the previous owner was the daughter of a master tech for ford, my step father is also a master tech for ford. It is in perfect running condition, but i am afraid that if i were to start adding more power, or even converting it over to a 5 speed it wouldnt be worth it.

What do you guys think? Keep it 5 speed? Leave it auto? Should I work on it or get it a new motor and beef up the tranny?

Thanks Devin

PS it is my daily driver, i also go away to college and i bring it, gas i dont care about and i trailer it up there only drive it home for x mas break.

Yes it is worth it. I had 165K on my last engine and did not rebuild it yet. I am still using it. I have new heads and added almost all bolt ons. No problems here at all. when i took it apart the piston and block looked real good. I was really surprised for 165k engine. I also did worked ford dealership as parts sales. These engines are great. You can beat on it forever. Unlike my 4.6, 5.0 engines are just more easy to work on.

So go ahead and throw some power adder in there :)

thats good to hear, i hear different things i hear what u said then i hear that no you shouldnt, now what about my tranny? keep the auto and add a stall converter , shift kit or try to swap it for a t5, also as it is my car is pretty loud but i want it even louder and suggestions on how i can do this before i go back to school.

And what should i start with hollywood? like i said i have non catted h piper and catback flowmaster, keep in mine its a gts so it is a bit lighter then a normaly gt.

thanks

It's fine man. If your family works for ford they can do the comp test and see if the engine is healthy. I am pretty sure your engine is fine. You are not doing "Major" modification such as adding a supercharger or turbocharger so it's not going to hurt anything. I currently have magnaflow x pipe and magnaflow magnapack. They are very loud but they are very nice(stainless steel). Flowmasters are great mufflers and they sound good. You already have those and "H" pipe so leave those alone and spend the money else where. Such as New intake and header and some underdrive pulleys, May be even better performing radiator. make the car reliable first.

I started my car's modification from suspension and worked up from there.

Sometimes listening to other people confuses you more. If your car is running fine then throw some bolt on in there. I drive my car everyday and nothing is going wrong.

other people who are having problems. they are own their own. You know your car better then anyone else. :thumb:

If your car is auto leave it auto. i see no point spending money on T5 conversion. If you want 5 speed. trade in your car and get 5 speed. Remember that your car is DD. More modification you do to your car less DD it will become.

My 5.0 i just did H/C/I and called it a day and went on to another project which is 96 4.6 which is almost done. My 4.6 is DD also. my next project will be fox body.

I see no pleasure in the cars that i can't drive. If i wanted a show car i go trade in all 3 of my mustangs and get something else.

I cannot comment on the performance stuff on your car, sorry! If you do buy, look and go from the:
.:SN95FORUMS SPONSORS:. area! They give to the site + gives a discount usually! There is about all you will need on those sites listed!

I was talking manifold. I can't tell you which brand because that's another big debate you will have to make yourself.

People who have trick flow will love trick flow and hate everything else.

People who have edelbrock will only tell you to get edelbrock. bleh bleh bleh.

It's all in the looks and style of the intake so you will have to choose. they are all in the same price range and they all do the same thing at almost same flow. just don't go too big. Going too big is not better. your car is DD so stick with street and emmision friendly stuff.

I have factory cobra manifold. i don't need anything bigger then that and i like factory ford stuff.

If you are gonna get parts why don't you stick to local preformance stores? They can order for you and tell them to get you a discount so you don't have to shop around. PLUS if you are not going to work on your own car ask the local performance shop where to get it installed so you can kill two birds with one stone.

I know ford tech guys. they hate installing aftermarket stuff. I don't know how much money i spent on buying lunch for them to install the things i bought. But see you are lucky:) yeah get the pulleys. It will draw some extra juice from alternator so your headlight is going to dim at idle. That's normal so don't freak out. :hammer:

Get some better intake manifold and header. and when you have real extra cash get a set of nice aluminum heads. and i think you will be very happy with just those.

Some people say most bang for the buck is the rear gear. going 3:73 gears with auto 5.0 DD will be prefect!

I went 4:10 and i stepped down to 3:55 since my car is 5 speed. It was too much for DD.

Anyways good luck man:) I think you gonna do great. Since you got a ford tech as help i don't think you can go wrong :thumb:

underdrive pullies are the biggest waste of money IMO. you are looking at like a 1-3hp gain.

i removed mine because they created charging issues.

U/D pullies FTL. :nonono:

I read that 5.0's are more restrictive on the exhaust side. So wouldn't better flowing heads be a better choice before intake?

I am sorry that you are having a charging issue. I warn him about the headlight dimming issue. May be you you have some kind of booming sound system and need the "Juice"

My pulleys are march. you can always reinstall your factory alternator pulley back on to make up for the loss.

Get them or don't get them is up to you.

Opinion without the explanation is useless :nonono:

It's your money. Spend it the way you want. just make sure to get the quality parts.

Good luck :thumb:
