The auto trans in my 97 f250 has 210k miles, still shifts great. Never been rebuilt or even pulled from the truck.

I had an old bronco with an E4OD... The previous owner had it rebuild twice and never beat on it... I was nice to it only cause the electric shift 4x4 didn't work and it was toast 70k after last rebuild.
My buddy burns up his AOD every 6 months, but he beats on it... We're finally ripping that POS out.
Another friend of mine had an AODE and only towed with it... He switched over to a manual within 6 months...
You can build a decent auto, but I wouldn't bother... would cost way too much IMO...
