I just put new wheels on my car they are 17x9 with the same tires I had previously used 245/40/17. The old wheels were 17x8. I notice a grinding and rubbing sounds now when I turn the wheel far in either direction. This is aggravating :BangHead: Its not like I have 275/40/17 up front. I have also replaced my rack and pinion, tie rods and ball joints recently. Any help would be appreciated.

That's actually pretty common with tire size like that. I know that when I was running 275s, I used to rub on sway bar at full lock. Nothing you can really do about that, unless you want to put a spacer on the front wheel and have it stick out about 2 inches.

You can always install a spacer, but as I've said earlier, the wheel might stick out a bit too far. I'd just recommend not going to full lock to get rid of the issue.

It's gonna take a whole lot more than rubbing on sway bar ever now and then to ruin a tire. I've never once had problem with that. Tires usually peal easy when they touch a sharp surface, such as edge of the fender or something else like it. A smooth surface such as sway bar is not going to do much damage to the tire if any at all.

One thing I'd recommend doing would be taking the wheel off, and seeing if there are any fresh rub marks anywhere. I'm pretty sure that you are rubbing on sway bar, but you also may be tagging the plastic fenderwell cover, which again is to no concern.

Mine does it too with 275/40/17s

I'm not overly concerned. Like Dmirty said, a tire rubbing the swaybar isn't gonna hurt anything.

Hmmm could it that the offset of the rims are causing that?
I have 275s up front and I don't rub at all on full lock.

I've got OEM 17x9 04 cobra wheels with 275/40/17 BFGs up front on my 96 GT with no rubbing issues lock to lock.
