Normal idle vacuum reading on a boost gauge?

Hey dudes,

I had to remove the vacuum line from my manifold to the boost gauge sensor. Now it seems I am running 12 psi of vacuum at idle. Is this normal?

I swear it was closer to 5 psi or below at idle.

Mine was always at about 14 inches of mercury.

what kind of cam?

stock cam should be 17-22 in/hg... of coarse all gauges arent created equal.

Mine was a stock motor with an Edelbrock intake manifold. It was an Autometer mechanical vacuum gauge.

you had a problem or an inaccurate guage then.

stock cam will always be at the least 16 in/hg

Perhaps. But everytime this question gets asked, there are usually a lot of different responses, so don't hold it against me if I don't take your word for it.

Great. However, I would also presume that the Ford manual doesn't take into account 150,000+ miles of wear, degradation of ring seal, etc.

The car ran perfectly, idled perfectly, and had no vacuum leaks. The installation was clean and flawless.

Don't speak to me like I'm an idiot. Smart guy.

what makes you think i'm presuming you're an idiot? i was giving factory stock specs, of coarse there are TONS of variables, hence the reason i asked "which cam", also why i said all gauges arent created equal.

simply put if the stock cam is only pulling 14 in/hg at idle the motor is getting loose, there's a vacuum leak, or a valvetrain issue.
