My convertible top closes with some struggle.

In an effort to figure out if it's a fluid or motor issue I popped the plug out on the motor. It's definitely full! But the fluid is clear/yellowish.

Given that this system is supposed to take Dexron III ATF, I was expecting red fluid.

Did it come with clear-yellowish fluid from the factory? Or did someone fill it with incorrect fluid?

If it's supposed to have ATF I'd say someone filled it with the wrong fluid. I'd flush it out and see how it acts. Hopefully nothing got damaged.

You are spot on, someone put the wrong fluid in. Drain it, refill with
dex lll. This may only be a first step as top cylinders and motors do go beat but you cant diagnosis until you have the correct fluid.
