[h=5]Anybody ever had their factory oil pressure gauge stop working?.....I ran my car threw the gears today(hard) and noticed the oil pressure was not working.......turned the key off and back on,then it worked again.......but about a mile later it stoped....let it idle and its smooth as can be with no noise whatsoever......plus the speedo doesn't work and the mileage just shuts off.......bad cluster?[/h]
i had this same problem with the sonic blue gt, and well this is what came of it

im really not to worried if it comes down to that because i would love to build this car. but it still kinda scares me that i might mess up the 2v thats in it.......i installed a manual oil pressure gauge last night and here are the readings

cold-60 to 64psi at idle

warm 28-32 psi idle

havent been able to drive it yet because of a leak at one of the fittings

I don't know much about the system pressurizations but that seems to me like it's normal and that your old guage may have died on you man

the OEM is more of an on/off switch from the internet rubbish i've read (never looked into it, installed an aftermarket one) -- so, that being said, I'd look at the sender unit and get a test light on the back of the cluster... see if you can track down where its failing (sender, wires, or cluster)

When I bought my car, the oil pressure gauge had been replaced with an aftermarket one. After poking around, I determined it was because the wire that attached to the stock sender has broken/frayed. I run aftermarket gauges now so it's a moot point to me. But that may be your issue.

As far as pressure, it depends on how hot it is, but I usually idle around 20 to 25, and at around 3000 RPM I'm a little over 40 psi. I hover around 60psi when cold. This is on a "healthy engine" (my mechanic told me it was healthy when he was working on it a couple weeks ago and had the heads off).

Edit: When you say "mileage just shuts off" do you mean the odometer? If so, then that is a broken gear in the cluster. Easy to fix, cheap part on LMR. As for the speedo, what does it do? Just sit at 0? Sits at a reading and stays there? Could be bad gear in trans, or nick in wire from VSS to cluster? Do the rest of your gauges work (voltmeter, fuel gauge, water temp)?

The OEM oil pressure gauge is indeed an 'on/off switch'. It will fluctuate based on whether the reading passes a certain point. The measurement is accurate at telling you if its hi, low, or in between. Thats it.
I installed a mechanical aftermarket oil pressure gauge in mine and on idle it is around 18-20PSI. 30 seems a bit high but not something i'd be worried about.

When the gauge turns on/off is it immediate? It could be a bad wire or sending unit.
As long as you keep the aftermarket gauge in there, you should be fine. Just monitor everything. I doubt the same thing that happened to the blue car will happen again.

Just replace oem pressure switch with a new one if you haven't gone with a aftermarket. Mine is original and it covered with oil residue but it works fine.

Actually got the leaks fixed and drove the car today........after driving it for a while the psi at idle is around 18-22 .......50+ psi at 3k Rpms......

When I say the odometer shuts off I mean it just dissapears ....like no longer shows the mileage........in 5th gear at about 5k rpms the speedily will say I'm doing about 20 mph......and usually just sits around 10mph at highway speeds......

This has a brand new 3650 in it and just swapped in a new vss ......still didn't solve the problem

The stock gauge in my 95gt would intermittently read 0 pressure. Turns out the wire at the sensor was damaged.

Edit: actually this might be a lie. I don't remember if there's a gauge or not. Lol. 100% for sure though the oil light would come on intermittently due to the bad wire.

Well after a few days of driving and a couple 2nd gear burnouts. Its still holding awesome oil pressure......now gotta figure out the stalling when coming to a stop and no cluster lights problem
