I have been saving for a 2.1L kenne bell and its going well, but have been looking at possibly going nitrous instead because of 1. Cost 2. Cost haha. I know nitrous can be dangerous but I want a little more power without breaking the bank. My question is, would it be worth the 5+ grand to put the KB on there or should I just go for a cheaper nitrous kit and do it the right way?

Also if anybody with nitrous can chime in with their set up, how they did it, tune, etc. It would be greatly appreciated.

I have been between going with a turbo or just slappin a bottle on it. I am not at the track every weeking or doing SCCA so the power it has with out no2 is enough and at the flip of a switch yer gone. Dangers of it are not that big of a deal anymore. With the proper safety switches in place its it can be reliable and safe. I know someone(probably with a supercharger) will come in and complain that its PIA to have to fill it all the time and then make up some crazy $/lb as well( it all exploded last week I think it was). I know locally there is a guy that sells it for $5/lb and for the little bit that I would actually use it I would be suprised if I had to fill it more then 5-6 times a year. For that amount of use I think it would be a waste of time and money for me to invest in the forced induction idea.

This is how I feel and its hard to save 5k and honestly if I can turn the bottle on then hit the track and walk on ls1's im good to go. I just want to know people set-ups, how they did it, ease of install, and saftey precautions they took. I dont know many things about nitrous so any help i can get ill take.

Why not just buy a more reasonably priced blower setup or find a used Kb? I really wanted a Kb for my car but I never would have paid five grand.

I just dont like the way a centri supercharger looks and I have looked for used kb's but so far no luck on a decently priced one. Nitrous just seems like the cheapest and easiest way to get a decent amount of power to my daily driver without breaking the bank. Im just considering it right now but i want to be informed on both types of forced induction so that i can make a good decision with my money.

I wouldn't spray it for a few reasons. First, I have seen a few n20 setups backfire and with a plastic intake that already has been known to crack, is not my idea of fun. Second, when the bottle runs out so does the fun, and the power is addictive. Third, the bottle takes up trunk space and needs to be refilled..

If it was my money, I wouldn't go with a kb. The best I have seen one on a mod motor go was low 12's high 11's.... For about 1k-2k less, you can get a real nice vortech or procharger kit with everything including aftercooler, and still have money left over for a set of cams. You could take it even further and get a hellion turbo kit for the same cost as a new kenny bell

the backfiring problems can all be kept under control with the proper safety switches. With that being said most of the people I know that did it didn't run most or some of the safety switches. I just have no need for 400hp on tap 24/7 and having it there I am sure would just encourage me to punch it more often, waste more gas and tires.

Yes when the No2 is out so is your fun. That reminds me of something... Oh yea when your out of gas then the fun is over also. not being able to or not wanting to check your level of No2 is just asking for problems. I would certainly add another pressure sensor to my multi gauges so that I can monitor it and then could set a high/low level on it so that it will let me know if its low. Same thing with the fuel pressure sensor. It has the ability to hook up to a relay to cut power to the NO2 system if the fuel pressure drops too low.

From what ive been reading about nitrous the big key is having all of the proper saftey switches such as a window switch and a good tune that doesnt increase the timing, and colder spark plugs. id love to have 400rwhp available to me all the time but even 2k is too much for me to spend right now and when i can possibly drop a little less than 1k and be able to push 330-360 or so to the wheels when i want to have fun why not? It seems like nowadays nitrous isnt as dangerous as it used to be with all of the nifty saftey precautions.

Imo if 2 grand is too much to spend then my guess is you probably should hold off on even doing nitrous right now. then again it's really none of my business.

I'd spray it. A cheap used setup can be had for $300 or so, a few safety switches and you're done.

You still really need to monitor stuff, safety switches or not the nitrous is under massive amounts of pressure when you're in the spray and it cuts out because you loose fuel pressure or bottle pressure bad stuff can still happen. Or those pics where a bottle heater malfunctioned along with the pressure release and the bottle exploded, peeled a Maxima appart like a tin can.

Everyone's advice is spot on, can be dangerous, filling bottles is a PITA, when the bottle pressure starts loosing times are inconsistant. Etc. I ran probably 3 different setups from dry to wet on my 5.0L Foxes. Not as difficult as your '00, on the Fox it's hook it up and spray. You will need tuning, and whether you go with wet or dry, depending on the shot, you may need to upgrade the fuel system. The returnless systems have a tendency to lean out right when you spray until the fuel pump catches up. We had a few 4.6 guys running nitrous when I used to drag.

I am planning on a 50 shot to test the waters, then go 75 and once i get the feel for it, crank it up to 100 and be done. I think i'd be happy with a 100 shot for a while until I can go heads and cam down the road.
