I have searched and searched with many skeptical answers and dead ends. My Smog Pump is going out. I want to know how i can delete it. What all is needed? can it be done in a weekend? Anyone have a HOW TO? What are the pro's and cons. Will i still pass inspection? I know i want to get rid of the pump, and the pipe that goes to my x pipe, but what else is removed. Where can i get the delete kit? are there any tips or tricks? PLEASE DONT LINK ME TO ANY THREADS I WANT THIS TO BE THE OFFICAL THREAD WITH NO DEAD ENDS AT ALL! 1. What all is involved in removing the smog pump etc. 2. What are the Pro's to this? 3. What are the Con's? 4. What specifically do you remove? 5. Where to buy a delete kit, or can you just get a smaller belt? 6. Will the car pass the ASM Emission Standards test. 7. What other parts do you remove with the smog pump? 8. Are there any loose ends to tie up?
IN. i wanna get rid of mine too. i have emmissions also, but have some stuff thats not even connected and i still pass. :dunno: have visual, but the really only look for the cats. ill be using a pulley if i delete mine. after getting the ac out i wanted to get more out, it looks so much cleaner without it. heres a how to.. http://www.allfordmustangs.com//techarticles/Smog2.pdf
Don't waste your money on the pully.....SHORT BELT IT. ITs even CLEANER b/c you don't have some bullshit useless pulley hanging out there.
the only reason i am using the smog delete pulley is because where the vortech bracket moves the tensioner, the short belt wont have enough tension. on the oem bracket, the short belt should work fine.
So which belt is it, i know theres a lot of sizes, but i want to junk the smog and keep the a\c, for those 7 days of really hot weather we get over here. A smaller belt sounds better than yet another pulley.
I have ASP underdrives, A/C, and P/s and used a 89.5" Goodyear Gatorback belt. Removing the pump is a piece of cake - the only hard part is getting the bolts out that tubes to the back of the heads. I just did mine a few months ago. Here's a link that I found helpful. http://www.allfordmustangs.com/techarticles/Smog2.pdf
I had a smog pump eliminator thing put on my car over 18 months ago, probably. I had my old smog pump lock up on me twice. The second time caused me to be stranded for like 7 hours!! I decided then and there to go with the eliminator! I cannot afford the $45 every time for a new serpentine belt. Oh yeah, the guy who installed it, also inspects my car! I bought it from UPR Products. UPR Ultra Light Billet Smog Pump Eliminator Kit (79-95) Part Number: # 3005-ULT $69.99 I believe it uses the same size belt that is already used.
damn the link isnt showing up for me. So if i remove the pump, and i get a smaller belt what else do i have to remove.
ok i got it to pop up, anyone know the size of the belt i need without the pulley? well i guess that doesnt matter cause yall wouldnt know cause of my extra KB pulley. n/m
ok... remove the smog pump itself along with anything else attached to it and the tubes on the back of the heads. then to get the correct belt length take some string and wind it around the correct way for the routing on the engine. take that to the auto store and start trying out belts, it may take a few tries...
Didn't really read it but it looks like a good article. http://www.allfordmustangs.com/techarticles/Smog2.pdf
thanks but i meant to say i bought the pulley cause i didnt understand how the belt would be routed without it
without the idler pulley it follwos the exact same routing, just skips the location of the smog pump altogether. it would go from the alternator around the tensioner then right to the crank pulley.
Here is a pic I got from another forum, use about a 89" belt for stock pulleys, and about a 87" belt for under drive pulleys. You may have to take home a few and see what one works for your application. :thumb: [attachment deleted by admin]
