I replaced my coild and dist cap last year with MSD parts and while I don't mind sporting the name the RED color of the parts has always bugged me. Is there any problem with masking off the contacts and throwing a coat of paint on it? Anyone else done this before or am I just ocd now?

I don't see how it could possibly harm it as long as you don't cover the contacts with paint...

I was more concerned about heat reall. I got a high temp laquer but wasn't sure if it would be an issue. I will scuff and paint tomorrow then when I install the new mallory wires.

I didn't use hi temp paint on the coil. Hi temp paint might havesome type of metalics that might conduct electricity.

I will be masking it off enough that it would not be on the leads so its not an issue really. For plastic like this I usually use kryolon fusion but for under the hood, on top of the motor I was not sure it would take the temps. Dyin to do it today and make/hook up the new plug wires but going to an old navy ship docked here in town with pops fer fathers day. Car will have to wait.
