So, as most of you kids know, my interior was originally grey, and the PO decided it all needed to be black, so he spray painted it all. I've slowly been working towards making it all real black, so most of my interior is from a 95 car.

In case you didn't know, new edges didn't come with black, so it's another neat little thing, real enthusiasts will enjoy :D

Anywho, preparing for one of the largest shows I attend, this coming weekend, we decided to swap out my steering wheel for the real black one I have, and the column piece. That started the "well, let's refinish your air bags, since the paint is coming off of them"

Drivers side, I had to do twice, but it finally took the paint.

Passenger side, I scuffed and degreased and cleaned over and over, and it would still get messed up every time, till I finally said F that, and sanded the thing down entirely, getting rid of all texture, and the SRS and Mustang lettering.

Primed it, let it sit and made a McDonalds run, scuffed it and got rid of the runs, wiped it down, let it dry, then painted it, until I was satisfied.

Took it outside the next morning, and it bubbled after seconds in the sun. I tried smoothing out the bubbles, but I wasn't happy. On such short notice, I'd be hard pressed to find an SN-95 air bag, and rewire it to my style connector (I know drivers side is diff wires, maybe pass is ok) so I decided to put a vinyl over it.

Would have done straight black, but couldn't find it, thought the CF might add a little pizaz anyways.

I'm not good at this, so I asked my neighbor to help out, since he's excellent at it. In the pictures, we aren't quite done. I will be going back once it's completely dry, popping any air bubbles that might appear, as well as trimming off the excess. He said not to do it yet. Anyhow, here you go:

That gouge happened when I took out a bubble that formed, then you can see the thousand pinholes.

That's a little LED, I moved it out a bit for us to work, it's usually hidden. It helps when people can't ffind the door handles at night lol.

Anyways, I know some won't like it, I know some will, just an idea to be different.

God Jeremy, you are such a ricer.

That little LED must be so damn useful though. No one ever finds the door handle in my car at night.

They end up beating the door to death looking for the handle. The light is like "see where it's glowing red? that's the handle"

And yea, I'm beyond rice lol

Ehh not a fan of the CF... came out great though

I was going to just do straight black, but I couldn't find any. I think it's a neat accent, and will look better in the sun light. Best part, if I don't like it, I can pull it off. No harm ha

Thanks, I've had them there for a long time. I also have 2 in the little tray under the radio. I have them wired to come on with the running lights, so any time the headlights are on, though they are on a separate switch so they don't necessarily have to be on....but why not?

Did you use a heat gun? I recently did the woodgrain pieces in my BMW with that same wrap. It can turn out great, if you take your time with it.

It was his idea to pull it and refinish it. Then it progressed from there after failed attempt after failed attempt of trying to make it look right.

What did you sand the airbag cover with?? You can see all the sand scratches. You should of cleaned it with a bit of thinner to get the rubber real soft and spray some adhesion promoter. I bet it would of stuck.

Looks like you sanded with you fingertips. That's why it looks wavy as hell. Always use a block. A foam one would of worked great.

I went back over it after the bubbles showed up with some 600 with my fingers. I know how to do prep work, but at that point I was just pissed off at it.

I did clean it with thinner, mineral spirits, a chemical with the same strength as minerl spirits but with a dry time of acetone, and I used adhesion promoter. It stuck in some places. But wasn't nearly good enough
