One beautiful Saturday morning after Cars & Coffee I was out cruising around when all of a sudden a '03 Cobra pulled next to me a stoplight. We both gave an understood nod and when it turned green we were both off. I didn't have the greatest start but once I hit third gear the Cobra rapidly disappeared from my mirror until shit went south. Parts of my transmission started scattering all over the road and smoke filled the car. Ooops.

Cobra owner was super cool. He had a front row seat to the show so he pulled over and stayed with me until the tow truck showed up. Said his car was FBO with a ported blower.

Once I got the car home I found out the extent of the damage.

Pulled the trans out to find even more damage than I thought.

From talking to many people the best guess is the solid mount didn't allow as much flex as the motor mounts and caused it to twist and break.

The rotors for the Roush rear brakes were no longer available so I bought some new Cobra calipers along with some Baer Eradispeed 13" rotors.

New (used) transmission from LKQ $1800 later...

During assembly noticed that the weld on the driveshaft was cracked. I sent this back to PST to be fixed and rebalanced under warranty.

The car shook so violently when the trans came apart that it caused this. Also loosened all the bolts on the front of the motor.

Got offered a job back in Missouri closer to family. Drove the car from Houston to Kansas City with no issues.

I could not stand the squealing and lack of drivability of the ACT clutch anymore so for my power level decided a stock LS3/LS7 clutch would be just fine.

Also took this opportunity to fab up a new trans mount that ties into the subframe connectors. Sorry I don't have better pics.

I had the chance to weight the car again. First time since the motor/trans swap. Also added the torque arm and roll bar.

At a test and tune my slave cylinder decided it didn't want to live anymore. At this point I was done messing with this trans and decided to go a different route.

Do you have a reason other than it being a Chevy motor? It's a fantastic motor, no arguing that.

This is the new trans. It's an Aisen AR5 from a Chevy Colorado/Pontiac Solstice. The adapter is from a company called FabBot.

Also decided to strip down the factory dash wiring harness to git rid of some weight/clutter.

Do you have a reason other than it being a Chevy motor? It's a fantastic motor, no arguing that.

I'm not a fan of crossbreeding. I don't care for it in hot rods either. So its not just Mustangs.

The rest of the build is pretty cool.

If your using rubber/ urathane motor mounts you shouldn’t use solid tranny mount.

If you do you need solid motor mounts or that will happen again.

The AJE mount did have urethane bushings where it mounted to the body so it wasn't "solid".

The second generation of that mount I used the stock rubber mount for the TR6060, I didn't have problems after that other than some vibration I could not get rid of and the slave cylinder issues. I believe the vibration was due to not using a slip yoke with the solid axle. That was another thing that prompted me to try something different. The plan was to save for a T56 Magnum but the AR5 option presented itself so I'm gonna try it out.

I got a great deal on a black interior; dash, door panels, etc. I'm in the process of swapping all that out now. I'll get pictures when it stops snowing/thunder sleeting.

Anybody have experience with the Scott Rod rear seat delete?

I would absolutely love to build another one dedicated as a track car. I want to do an aluminum block 4.8 with the small port LS3 heads and rev it to the moon. 94-98 car with Cobra, IRS. It would be a blast.

am I the only one surprised you upgraded to a solstice tranny? I didn' think that they had that much power to be concerned with?

Yeah I’d think a t56 magnum would be an upgrade. I’ve never heard the solstice tranny as being stronger.
