Hi all

Just wondering what to look for when shopping for used PI heads/intake

Obviously cracks and plastic pi intakes are no good.

But less obvious stuff, if anyone can lend a hand, its appreciated.

stuff Im looking at now came off of a 2001 romeo with 85,000 miles.

These motors will last forever. I took the covers off my NPI 150K+ engine and it was immaculate. Just check for wear and stuff. Make sure the PI intake has the aluminum crossover. Summitt racing has one on sale brand new FRPP for 140$ which i think is a deal.

nothing sticks out about the heads, but that intake is a Dorman, they say the dorman PI intake doesnt flow much better than the NPI intake.

on the heads, if you can inspect them in person check the spark plug holes for thread damage....

from what i can tell there are 3 different PI intake manifolds.

ford originals
dormans
ford replacements

the OE ford pieces have no webbing on the runners and the runners are visually larger/rounder.
the dormans have the webbing and the runners are noticeably skinnier like the picture above.
the ford replacements usually have an M on the flat between the 2 middle runners, that M is a motormite trademark, which means the replacements are most likely made by motormite, and motormite IS dorman.

i can post a picture of all.

i have no first hand experience on a dyno between the 3 but those that have only see a couple horsepower difference between the 2 (i say 2 because to me the ford OE and ford replacements with the M are essentially the same). i personally will only buy original equipment ford pulled from a PI car with the original intake still.

give me a minute to host all the pictures, with the injectors in the way above its hard to tell if its a ford replacement or dorman, either way, same thing.

dorman first, notice all the webbing, and no flats between the runners.

this may be a ford replacement or an original, hard to tell, only difference is the M and the water outlet on the rear for the heater hose.
