Okay guys, I'm in the process of purchasing a 98 GT 5-speed car. I've driven two this week. The first car has a dual centerforce stage 3 clutch and the second car I'm not sure about(dealer car), it may be stock. The centerforce car's clutch was relatively easy to push. The other car had a very heavy clutch feel. Is there something wrong with it? I didn't hear any strange noises and the car ran great and shifted great just with a heavy clutch. I only needed to press the clutch a small amount to shift. the engagement/disengagement was at the very top of the clutch's travel. Anyway, I want to buy the second car but I don't know if there is something wrong with it. Help me out please!

Also, I'm just a newb to mustangs. I've had three 4.6L cars so far and I love that motor. It's a tank.

Actually the stage 3 car didn't have a heavy clutch. the other car did. That's what suprised me. I expected the stage 3 car to be heavy and it wasn't. I just don't want to by it if something is wrong with it.

many clutch companies are trying to make heavy duty clutches more streetable by using different compounds in disc instead of using a heavy-duty (tough to use) presure plate.

It could also be something as simple as a cable, i dont have much experience on clutches but when i snapped my oem cable i switched over to a upr cable i had as a spare, it was much firmer than the oem cable. I had it checked out after i installed it and the mechanic who is a good buddy of mine said everything was in correct order and the cable was the only difference.

the clutch always seemed heavy on my car, i bought mine with 51k and i pulled the clutch out of mine at 79k and it was stock.. the king cobra had the same petal effort in my opinion.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the help. It's probably fine. I just can't afford to buy a car and have it break right away. This is gonna be a daily driver for the most part.

That is a sign of a bad clutch cable...mine got so bad it was miserable ..put in a stock OEM cable & light as a feather! Buy the second car but demand a NEW OEM FORD CABLE ONLY be installed...most likely end of problem.

Mine has enough clutch pedal that it would push most people up in there seat lol. I would dare to say it's just a heavy aftermarket or stock clutch. Possibly cable issues but mines all working great and fluidly, and it's just a heavy clutch. It sticks real well, almost enough to say its not stock.

My UPR cable anoys me a bit, it squeeks and makes a few noises that keep me on edge since my last one snapped, but it shows no sign of real wear just yet and i check it regularly. my OEM was much more comfortable though and much smoother.
