I was just about to pull the trigger on a PI intake to put on my '98 GT and replace the leaking stock intake when I lost the #8 plug the other day. Now I'm looking at getting the Time Sert kit but that thing is expensive. To those of you who blew out plugs what did you do? Did you buy the 'Sert kit and fix the car, farm the work out to someone else? I would think that getting someone to repair that one plug hole would be just as expensive as buying the Sert kit. Now, the Sert kit is expensive but then again I've got 7 other potential spark plug blowouts so maybe the kit is a good investment? Any suggestions or stories are welcome...

Had this problem on my Chevy because the spark plug were installed with the wrong torque specs, so someday the plug shoot out of the cylinder head. Me and my Dad fixed it with a Helicoil.

Now 40k Kilometers later it still works.

Thanks for the replies guys. Now, for you guys that fixed the threads, did you pull off the head? I've talked to a couple of machine shops and they all told me the head needs to come off-everything I've heard about using the Time Sert kit or the heli-coils says you don't have to pull the head.

Either way guys, I can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on the car just to leave it as a non PI 2V; if I have to pull a head and intake I might as well go for the whole goddamn swap...

There's a local guy that hosts "blownoutsparkplug.com" and they specialize in Fords with this plug problem. I'd love to ditch the NPI top end but with my Charger in the body shop I can't afford the PI swap right now. Instead, I'll have this local guy 'Sert all 8 plugs and get back to it.....someday...

Well I just NOW got the car to the blownoutsparkplug.com guy who's local to me. He plans to do his thing to all 8 cylinders while guaranteeing the work. Get this: he says that he routinely torques the plugs to 30 ft lbs! I'm used to hearing 10-20 ft lbs on spark plugs on any type of car so the 30 number is crazy to me. Oh well, he guarantees the work so I guess I'm covered. I also had him install my PI intake and he is NOT happy. I was under the impression that the PI intake install isn't too bad but being a factory-trained 'tech used to doing OEM/direct replacement type work I'm assuming he's offended by the whole process. Oh well...

Im not sure why hes offended doing that swap. Just alittle RTV on 1 corner and hes set. You have to change the waterpump nipple on pre 98's which is a b**** but not to bad. The waterpump nipple was that worst step of the swap for me.

In that case it shoulda' been a little easier as mine is a '98-no nipple work needed. Don't get me wrong though, I'm impressed by his reputation and what he apparently seems capable of doing for Fords...

Well, looks like you already took care of it. My issue was I did the helicoil kit, and it blew out. I ended up having to pull the head and take it to a machine shop to get it fixed with a nicer insert. $500 lesson haha

Don't feel bad-many people go with the heli-coil and are betrayed by it at some point. I considered going with the Time-Sert kit but #1 it's expensive, and #2 if it's done improperly I'm out the head and the price of the kit anyway. I try to do as much work on the car myself, but in a situation like this I decided that having a 'pro deal with the problem is the only way.

If any of you guys need this type of work I strongly suggest you look into blownoutsparkplug.com...
