When I first start the car up after from being in a store or something, it wont go into reverse, period. I have to wait about 40 seconds before it will go, and if I do force it into reverse, when I try to back up it grinds and makes a horrible noise. I'm not a complete moron when it comes to driving a stick and ive never had this problem before. Any help? :dunno:

have you tried putting it in 1st then reverse. or 5th then reverse. this is a typical problem with Ford trannys.

its actually a known problem on the t-45, and ford offered a voulentary recall on them. basically there is something wrong with the synchros/casting of the reverse mechanisim in the transmission that will cause it to be hard as hell to into reverse and then pop out once in. i think ford MIGHT have extended the warranty on these transmissions up to 90k miles or something like that, not sure tho. it was never a recall, it was just a TSB. if anyone came in with these problems, ford already knew about it and just replaced the transmission with a new one. no way of fixing it cheaply w/o getting into modifying it, if it really bugs you that much you should just look into buying a new transmission. any rebuild isnt going to help you at all, trust me, i tried it. got tired of it, and after i blew out the 3-4 shift fork for a 2nd time in a row, i just bought a used t-45 off a cobra.

yeah, the 1st then reverse thing never worked for me, i had to keep revving it up until it finally went in. got pulled over once because the cop thought i was either trying to steal it or show off.

My 95 gt has always been a bitch to get in reverse warm or not, I do the first gear trick also, although sometimes its not enough, when you put it in first, let the car move a inch or 2 then try reverse and it should work like a charm.

Possile to fix with simple clutch adjustment or a clutch replacement. I had this issue with my 97 had to install new clutch no more problem. Change the shift also with a quality one this will stop the fork damage that people experiance.
