Ok my buddy was at a mustang show with me on sunday and when he left on his way home he was at a stoplight in his 95 GT and it just died. All it would do was crank, so he had it towed home and so far he has found out that he has spark coming out of the coil going into the distributor but its not leaving the distributor, he tried a new coil, new ignition module, cap and rotor and still just cranks. Im having trouble trying to think of what it could be, so any help would be great. thanks

dizzy's are known to go out on our cars. look under the cap for metal shavings at the bottom of the dizzy. the pip can be replaced but it's easier just to change out the whole thing

Why do people say this? All you have to do is drive out the pin in the dizzy gear and the whole shaft FALLS out! It takes a few extra minutes but saves you a shit load of cash.

the gear doesn't always fall off. I have one now i can't get the gear off and I have mechanical skills. maybe he doesn't have a press or if it's just a time factor. i just needed to add the option. he knows his skill level and money situation.

i don't have mechanical skills, but i know you have to press the gear off.

btw Ryclef said the shaft falls off once the pin is pressed off, not the gear

Small punch and the pin comes out no problem. Take the dizzy and put it upside down in a vice but only close the jaws enough so they they don't squeeze the dizzy but will catch the gear. A few good yanks down (kinda like a slap or slide hammer) and it pops off. I know NOT EVERYONE has a vice or a punch set but I'm sure I can do the same with a pair of vice grips, a hammer, and a small screwdriver. If you need a press, you got bigger issues. Send the dizzy to me if you can't get the gear off. I got a pip in the garage. I'll rebuild it and have a spare...

I've taken apart several distributors and I don't have a press. I use exactly the method Ry already described. It's easy and takes 5 minutes.

I'm sorry. I'm unclear as to how you think Ry and I are "kicking you in the nuts."

Your original information wasn't necessarily wrong - we're just pointing out that replacing the hall effect sensor is rather easy and can be done with simple tools.

While Ry is a pretty good mechanic, I certainly am not. So if I can do it, anyone can.

Finally, if someone doesn't have mechanical skills, the best way to learn is to try.

Paul.

SUPER MECHANICS

I just found an new user title....

Like paul said, noone is attacking YOU so just take it easy. I am merely putting in some input as to what you MAY want to try to get the gear off or anyone else that MAY happen to read this. Yes, you answered him...but...haven't you ever heard "there's no wrong way to eat a Reese's?"
