Picked up a Fiberglass repair kit and repaired the cracked hood this weekend.

Installed FRPP Hood Pin Kit today.

Frame Preparation:

I chose to replace the bump stops with the hood pins.

null-11-3.jpg

I used a step drill bit and made the hole a little larger for the stud.

null-10-3.jpg

I applied a small amount of grease to the top of the hood pins and slowly closed the hood onto the pins allowing the grease to mark the hole location on the bottom side of the hood. Then I prepped the top of the hood with painters tape to prevent damage to the paint.

Then I drilled a pilot hole from under side the hood slowly.

Then using the step drill bit I drilled the Pin hole to a size of 7/8 per the instructions.

The holes came out perfect, just need to clean up and adjust the height of the pins.

Then I carefully mounted the top plates.

Adjusted just right....

All finished.....

Well this past weekend wasn't good to the Cobra. I was on my way home from work when the car started stalling and lurching. Then I heard loud noises coming from the engine. I limped her home. I suspect it is the oil pump as no oil is getting to the top end. I started pulling the top end apart to inspect the cam, lifters, and followers. Nothing broken and all the cylinders have good compression.

More pictures and details to come as I pull it apart to find the failure. I have ordered a new FRPP Oil Pump and Canton Oil Pan.

Good choice on the Canton oil pan. I would also go with the Canton windage tray as well.

Pulled more of the top end apart. Most defiantly oils starved. The cams are not damaged, nor are the valves or followers. The Lash Lifters were very dry and gunked up. Signs are pointing to failed Oil Pump.

Pulled some more stuff of the engine. There is a lot of stuff to pull off before you can take the timing cover off to get to the oil pump.

Had a friend take my Intake & Valve Covers to his work to clean them in his parts washer. I'm happy with how clean they turned out.

Awesome build man! If you do find anything wrong with the engine or are are looking for parts for the heads let me know. I have a set of B-Heads from a Mark VIII laying around. I guess they are different intake cams, but everything else is the same part number for part number. I have no use for them so just let me know. Sweet looking car though. Did you just use plasti-dip on the hood or just a flat or satin paint?

Thanks - Yes I Plasti-Dipped the hood. I damaged the front and repaired it with fiberglass. The Plasti-Dip is temporary until I buy a cobra r hood.

Damn sucks to hear about the oil pump. Hopefully you didn't do too much damage to it. How many miles are on that engine? Looks like it wasn't treated to well.

115,000 miles, I'm the second owner. I will most likely be pulling it after all and replacing the crank and bearings. I will know more after pulling the pan to check the rod bearings.

Looks like the first owner didn't like changing the oil. Good luck with it man! Hopefully the bearings look good and you caught it early enough.
